(Decoction powder, i.e., Shixuan San from *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*) consists of Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix). It is taken with Gancao (Licorice Root), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root), Houpo (Magnolia Bark), mixed with wine. It relies on this formula for patients with carbuncles and sores presenting a weak pulse. (Prescription: Renshen, Huangqi (Astragali Radix), and Danggui each 2 qian; Chuanxiong, Guixin (Cinnamon Twig), Baizhi, Fangfeng, Gancao, Jiegeng, and Houpo each 1 qian. Mix with hot wine for administration. Renshen and Huangqi tonify Qi, Danggui harmonizes blood, Gancao detoxifies, Fangfeng releases the exterior, Houpo disperses fullness, Guizhi and Jiegeng expel pus. Treating both interior and exterior, Qi and blood simultaneously, it jointly achieves the effect of internal support.)
(Tang decoction, Sun Yanhe's formula) consists of Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), and Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), totaling four aromatic herbs. Added are Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus), and Gancao (Licorice Root). It is excellent for cold-type sores sinking inward accompanied by vomiting and diarrhea. (Prescription: Pao Fuzi 4 qian, Pao Jiang and Qianghuo each 3 qian, Muxiang 1.5 qian, Huixiang, Dingxiang, Chenxiang, Yizhiren, Chenpi, and Gancao each 2 qian. Add 5 slices of fresh ginger and decoct. Treats sores transforming into cold syndrome and sinking inward, causing epigastric fullness, loose stools, hiccups, and coma. Because the cold pathogen sinks inward in the sore, Jiang and Fuzi are used to warm the middle and assist Yang, Qianghuo unblocks the joints, Zhi Gancao benefits the Spleen Yuan, Yizhiren, Dingxiang, and Chenxiang stop hiccups and promote appetite, while Huixiang, Muxiang, and Chenpi disperse fullness and remove stagnation. This was the method used by Sun Yanhe to treat Wang Bolu's arm sore; using it in midsummer represents the variable method of abandoning the season to follow the syndrome.)
(Tang decoction) based on Siwu Tang (Rehmannia Radix, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Danggui, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba)). Adds Xiangru (Boswelliae Resina), Moyao (Myrrha), and Guixin (Cinnamon Twig). Additionally adds honey-fried Ying Susuke (Papaveris Pericarpium). For deficiency pain in ulcers, it removes pain as if plucking something light. (Yingsuke has astringent properties and can stop various pains; Siwu Tang invigorates blood and supports the interior to generate flesh. Xiangru guides toxic vapors outward, preventing internal attack, and together with Moyao reduces swelling and stops pain.)
(Tang decoction, Li Dongyuan's formula) includes Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Longdancao (Gentianae Radix). Added are Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), along with Gancao (Licorice Root) and Jiegeng (Platycodon Root). The complete formula also includes Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma), and Kunbu (Sargassum). [Huangqin 8.5 qian (half wine-fried, half raw), Zhimu, Huangbai (wine-fried), Huafen, Danchao (Longdancao, wine-fried), Jiegeng, Kunbu each 5 qian, Chaihu 4 qian, Shengma, Lianqiao, Gancao (honey-fried), Sanleng (wine-fried), Ezhu (water-washed and fried) each 3 qian, Gegen, Guiwei (Danggui tail, wine-washed), Baishao (wine-fried) each 2 qian. Take 5-6 qian per dose, soak first then decoct. Lianqiao, Shengma, and Gegen detoxify and raise Yang; Gancao, Jiegeng, and Huafen expel pus and benefit the diaphragm; Danggui and Baishao invigorate blood; Kunbu dissipates phlegm; Sanleng and Ezhu break blood stasis and move Qi; Longdancao, Zhimu, Huangbai, Huangqin, and Lian greatly purge fire from all meridians.]
