Heaven and Earth have their laws; thus, endowment generates form, and the appearances of males and females are like the temporary union of Yin and Yang. Among the physical body and five limbs, the face and eyes manifest through Qi and color; within the Five Zang organs, the Hun and Shen (Spirit) are distributed. Through omens of disaster or auspiciousness, one investigates true pathogens lurking; by dividing regions according to a unified Qi, and deducing hidden and manifest signs via pulse diagnosis, one penetrates the meridians to measure their origins. Regarding overcoming and being overcome, invasion and arrival, the ascending and descending of rigidity and softness: "Generating me" and "I generate" bring fortune amidst misfortune; "Overcoming others" and "others overcome me" — if one follows the proper order, calamity may arise from within. If the Liver lacks Qi, it is advisable for the Kidney Water to be clear (meaning spirit and Qi are complete). If the nose (Lung indicator) is overly bright, one must fear a flame-like redness on the face (for ordinary people, a fiery complexion indicates disaster, let alone infants). Red lips with thirst, red cheeks prone to fright, cloudy brows causing parental worry, and a dim forehead bringing little joy to physicians. Generally, in managing infants, observing the face first to stabilize Qi and inspect color is paramount. This is because internal diseases manifest externally. When the primary position and secondary position are harmonious and pleasant, recovery is easy; when Qi, color, spirit, and expression intermingle, disease transmission becomes difficult to treat. First determine reversal and compliance, then compare deficiency and excess. Mutual invasion and arrival do not escape their source; critical illness and death or life must be understood at their root. These points are described above for further deduction. By understanding one corner, one can infer all others; seeking three times yields return, and the second search reveals subtleties in distant wisdom, requiring genuine mental connection. Physicians skilled in management possess much wisdom and strategy; regarding medicinal effects and prescriptions, one should broaden knowledge and vision, deeply seeking to decide on adoption or rejection. Dedicated to good teachers, striving not to obscure the methods. Those studying medicine must exhaust reason with utmost sincerity; details are too numerous to recount fully. One must strive for precision and balance as the ideal.
The Heart governs Red, the Spleen governs Yellow, the Lung governs White, the Liver governs Green/Blue, and the Kidney governs Black.
Metal generates Water, Water generates Wood, Wood generates Fire, Fire generates Earth, Earth generates Metal.
Metal overcomes Wood, Wood overcomes Earth, Earth overcomes Water, Water overcomes Fire, Fire overcomes Metal.
The natural generation and mutual invasion of the Five Elements:
Heart Qi invades Yellow, Spleen Qi invades White, Lung Qi invades Black, Kidney Qi invades Green/Blue, Liver Qi invades Red.
Heart Qi arrives at Green/Blue, Spleen Qi arrives at Red, Lung Qi arrives at Yellow, Kidney Qi arrives at White, Liver Qi arrives at Black.
White intersects with the Heart, Black intersects with the Spleen, Green/Blue intersects with the Lung, Red intersects with the Kidney, Yellow intersects with the Liver.
Black enters the Heart, Green/Blue enters the Spleen, Red enters the Lung, Yellow enters the Kidney, White enters the Liver.
