It is discussed that if plant seedlings lose irrigation, their growth will inevitably wither and scorch; if infants violate the rules of breastfeeding and feeding after birth, they will inevitably become weak and timid when grown up. Generally speaking, the principle of life generation must conform to the "Golden Mean" (moderation) to adapt to the suitability of metabolic transformation and growth.
If humans deviate from proper etiquette, they violate the numbers of Xuan Yuan (the Heavenly Dao). While a fetus is in the womb, it is nourished by harmonious qi; after birth, food intake must be regulated. One should not feed milk when it is not time for breastfeeding, avoiding overfeeding. Even if fed without milk or excessively, disaster will arise. Therefore, breastfeeding must not miss its timing, and eating must be moderated. If breastfeeding misses its timing, the child will naturally weaken even without illness; if eating lacks moderation, the child will naturally become timid even without disease. Breastfeeding strengthens the skin and muscles, while solid food thickens and nourishes the stomach and intestines. It is said that the practice of breastfeeding and feeding continues until two or three years of age to enhance the body's constitution. Nowadays, people forcibly stop breastfeeding before weaning, or indulge children in rich and sweet foods after one month. Would this not cause illness and harm the body? This is truly lamentable!
A newborn infant is merely a lump of blood, lacking specific form, symptoms, or pulse. If there are signs of fright, it should be known as fetal fright (Tai Jing); if there is heat, it should be known as fetal heat (Tai Re). On the third day, when changing clothes, safety is still uncertain; on the seventh day, an ancient ritual called "Yi La" (a sacrifice for the seven-day milestone) is performed. At this stage, conditions such as neonatal tetanus (Qi Feng), mouth contraction (Cuo Kou), issues related to the midwife ("Lao Niang", likely referring to care-related factors), locked belly (constipation), clear tendons (tendon spasms), and mouth puckering may appear. Additionally, due to evil qi invasion (Ke Wu), the infant may refuse to breastfeed, leading to spiritual depletion within a night. Only by using miraculous medicines can health be preserved, allowing the infant's life to survive after a long period. If the condition is deemed difficult to save, rescue efforts must be immediate, noting black fingernails and lips. For female infants, bloody urine at birth indicates heat accumulated in the womb; for male infants, closed eyes or erysipelas (Dan Chuang, a red, swollen, hot skin lesion) indicate extreme heat. Closed eyes and erysipelas are treated with detoxification; bleeding requires Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix). For infants who fall ill immediately after birth, whether seeking fire for warmth or adding cotton, causing unstable spirit, strabismus, and opisthotonos, the situation is pitiable. If doctors mistakenly treat this as fright wind (Jing Feng), cooling the heart (clearing heat and calming the mind) brings peace. It is advisable to use large amounts of Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) mixed with honey, which acts like a divine medicine. Infants under one year old do not understand fright taboos; noise causes restlessness. The area half-circle inside the eye is named "Qiang Bao"; fright-heat should follow the pattern of Bian Zheng (Transformation and Vaporization). Thirty-two days constitute one "Bian" (transformation), and sixty-four days constitute one "Zheng" (vaporization). After eighteen cycles of Bian Zheng are complete, pulses emerge, originating from the Cun Kou (radial artery at the wrist). If Bian Zheng is insufficient, manifestations appear on the face: the left eye belongs to Tai Yang Yin; the upper and lower parts of the right eyebrow belong to Wood; the nose tip (Zhun Tou) is the Central Palace Zhen Xing Earth; the ears belong to Kidney and often show Spleen Earth deficiency; smiling at the corners of the mouth indicates the Spleen; the cheekbones belong to Heart Fire; only the philtrum (Ren Zhong) belongs to the Lung. In the generation of the Five Elements, mutual production is heavy yet light; if mutual overcoming occurs, following the順 (smooth) sequence makes theory easy, but reversing it is hard to treat. Wisdom is unclear, nature is careless. The Heart governs fright; the Lung governs Qi; the Spleen governs Wind; the Stomach governs taste. The Stomach must not be cold; deficiency leads to vomiting and diarrhea, stopping fright wind from arriving. Since ancient times, it has been said that the Heart governs fright; all five zang and six fu organs have names for fright. Heart fright scatters blood and qi, failing to flow back, causing hundred diseases in the empty hall. Lung fright involves drinking water; lung wheezing involves dry retching without time. Spleen and Stomach issues relate to Kidney signals: grinding teeth, eye twitching, and night crying. Intestine fear causes facial redness; Heart's five-center heat is summoned by the Spleen. Palpitations with a green face and white lower body indicate Gallbladder fright. If in the San Jiao (Triple Burner), it ultimately becomes thirst; if entering the Bladder, it causes testicular pain and voice changes.
