Translation:
Discussion: Generally, when a child's prenatal qi is not substantial and orifices are not unobstructed, it is due to insufficient endowment and inadequate prenatal care, leading to injury of the zang organs and the Kidney Meridian. The Kidney is the root, belonging to the element of Water, and externally corresponds to the ear canal. Some say water enters the ear, or breast milk enters the ear; however, comparison shows this is not the case. If a child's vital qi pulse root is strong and zang-fu organs are solid, even if water or milk enters the ear, it will certainly not cause disease. This is entirely caused by deficient qi and weak pulse. There is no specific formula for tonifying the Kidney in children; one can only clear the Heart and Lungs. For newborns with severe conditions, treatment is difficult. After applying medicinal powders, slight improvement may occur, but relapse is common. For children over one year old, administer a decoction made of equal parts of Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Baifuling (Poria), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baishao (White Peony Root), Chuan Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), and Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) to consolidate the interior. If the interior is consolidated, external application is unnecessary, and spontaneous recovery will occur. For external application, use one wall spider, dried on a tile, along with small amounts of pizi (substrate/vehicle), Baijian (Alumen), Naobi (Borneol), and Shexiang (Musk). Grind uniformly, apply using a chicken feather into the ear, and it will heal spontaneously.
Discussion: If a child passes blood in stool or urine within seven days after birth, this is caused by excessive heat in the prenatal qi. The mother's consumption of strong wine, fine flour, roasted/fried foods, and salty pickles generates heat that flows into the Heart and Lungs. The fetus absorbs this heat-toxin in utero, which also transmits to the Heart and Lungs. In females, heat enters the Heart, causing hematuria; in males, heat enters the Lungs, causing hematochezia. The blood appears pale, resembling muddy water, but becomes bright red if severe. In such cases, do not use other medications. Instead, grind fresh Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) to extract its natural juice, mix 5-7 spoons with 1-2 spoons of honey and half a spoon of another ingredient (text unclear, likely water or more honey), warm it, and administer. The child will recover shortly. This is effective for boys. Do not prescribe Ganlu Yin (Sweet Dew Decoction) or arbitrarily administer pills/powders, as this may cause harm.
Discussion: If the mother suffers from blood heat, the fetus absorbs it, resulting in hot blood; if the mother has qi stagnation, the fetus absorbs it, resulting in qi obstruction. The infant's qi stagnates in the meridians and zang-fu, where accumulation fails to dissipate. Toxic vapors interact, internal obstruction occurs, and pathology manifests externally. Unable to resolve the blood and qi stagnation internally, they accumulate together, often resulting in swelling on the back or Du Meridian post-birth, resembling a fist, red and bloody. The child's body essentially contains putrefied blood combined with new masses and toxic stagnation, which suddenly cannot be resolved. What method does the physician have? If discussing [specific condition/person], without laboring excessively, use needle points or moxibustion handles to attack sequentially, though success is rare. Apply a paste of Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma), Chuan Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Qiufurongye (Hibisci Sabdariffae Folium), Huangshukuihua (Abelmoschi Moschatus Flos), Rushen (Frankincense), Mubiezi (Strychni Semen), and Wumingyi (Fossil Bone). When the abscess matures, grind a small amount of Baixiang (Cardamomi Fructus), mix with saliva, apply pea-sized doses. After some time, it will rupture, discharging pus and blood. First, administer formulas to support the interior, drain pus, detoxify, and clear heat, such as equal parts of Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix), Kugen (Bupleuri Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Beizhidu (likely Zhiqiao/Zhishi), Chuan Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Miantou Lulü (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix), and Jinwen Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma). Grind into powder, take 1.7 qian, decoct in hot water, and administer until bowel movement occurs for efficacy. Success is uncertain. Do not act recklessly seeking rapid resolution with toxic herbs, as this endangers life, which is tragic.
