Translation:
It is said that the bladder, externally named and internally connected to the kidneys, receives pathogenic factors transmitted from three meridians. The cold or heat of the external genitalia (testes) is governed by the Heart Qi. If there is heat in the Heart meridian, the heat enters the Small Intestine, resulting in urine that is either red or white, or dysuria (painful urination), or difficult and painful urination. If there is cold in the Heart meridian, the cold flows into the Bladder, leading to urinary retention, hernia, swelling, or a shiny scrotum. When an infant is born with both testes swollen and shiny, it is called "scrotal edema" (egg swelling); if one side is larger than the other, it is called "indirect hernia" (one-sided descent). This is mostly due to the transmission of fright qi within the body. Alternatively, if the mother experiences unresolved fright and anxiety during pregnancy, these emotions accumulate in the fetal sac, affecting the fetus, thus causing scrotal edema after birth. Externally, apply Heisan (Black Powder); internally, administer herbs to clear the Heart and regulate Qi. Heisan is made by equal parts of Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Rheomi Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), and Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), calcined until carbonized but retaining their properties, then ground into powder. Mix with pig bile and honey for topical application, yielding immediate results. For clearing the Heart, use Xijiao Dihuang Gao (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Paste) orally. If heat symptoms persist, administer Dalianqiao Yin (Great Forsythia Decoction); the child will rest peacefully through the night and recover by morning.
It is said that from infancy to adulthood, the Sanjiao (Triple Burner), limbs, five Zang organs, and nine orifices maintain complete functions without suffering from sores. Jinyuan believes this is because virtuous women protect the fetal sac well, avoiding lust. From conception to birth, they abstain from sexual intercourse, which is fortunate for both parents. In such cases, the infant's Qi and Blood harmonize, Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) flow smoothly, the Zang and Fu organs are balanced, and the skin is smooth. Observing the infant's skin, head, and face reveals this truth. Alas! Human origin stems from a small amount of impure substance, gradually taking shape in the womb. At birth, wisdom aligns with karmic forces. Ordinary couples may not understand this profound principle; they indulge in desires, even engaging in intercourse during the month before delivery, thereby disrupting Qi, damaging vessels, exhausting spirit, and corrupting blood. After birth, the infant suffers from widespread ulcers, head sores, mental unrest, crying, and irritability, all caused by exposure to turbid influences while in the womb, where evil interferes with righteousness. Wise scholars do not speak of this, but how can ignorant people be informed? I record this for your careful consideration.
It is said that infants with strong prenatal Qi have open passages between the three gates and nine orifices, harmonious internal and external respiration, unobstructed upper and lower connections, and smooth circulation of hundred vessels following the Sanjiao. This is due to natural Qi coordination. However, newborns aged three days to one month may suddenly suffer nasal congestion, inability to suckle, open mouth breathing, etc. This often occurs when the nursing mother sleeps carelessly, blowing air from her nose onto the infant's fontanelle, or bathing the infant with water of inappropriate temperature, exposing them to wind-cold pathogens. To treat nasal congestion, apply Tongguan Gao (Passage-Opening Ointment) externally and take Xiaofeng San (Wind-Expelling Powder) internally. If palpitations and fever occur, administer Dubohé San (Mint Powder). Tongguan Gao consists of equal parts of Bombyx Batryticatus (Baijiangcan), Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina (Zhuyazao), Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfuzi), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), and Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), ground into powder.
