Translation:
It is said that when infants suffer from various wind diseases, the pathogenic factors transmit and form critical conditions, leading to "cuokou" disease (neonatal trismus with retraction of lips resembling a fish mouth), which is life-threatening. Whether it is cuokou caused by fu-wind, tai-feng (fetal wind), suodu (locked belly), diaochang (hanging intestine), or luanhan (scrotal hernia), all related conditions evolve into "wind" syndromes. When wind pathogens invade the Heart and Spleen, they can trigger attacks. Cases of cuokou are all due to stagnation within the body, where the intestines and stomach are blocked, unable to circulate Qi, and unable to transform nutrients, resulting in abdominal distension, exposed cyanotic veins around the umbilicus, and inability to suckle due to tight lip contraction. If the symptoms are not urgent, but one does not promptly administer purgatives or unblocking treatments, there will be no chance for rescue. If physicians treat cuokou as a common occurrence, how can one arbitrarily prescribe medication after the pathogen has transmitted? One should target the specific condition and use formulas such as Zhenzhu Tianmo San (Pearl Heavenly Demon Powder) with unblocking properties. Once the disease is eliminated and Qi and Blood harmonize, the infant can survive. Users must respect and trust this method.
It is said that when fetal gestation is complete, birth occurs fully. A single Qi envelops and nourishes, opening orifices to connect internally and externally. During the ten months of pregnancy, the physical form is established. Within moments, the digestive tract has not yet perforated or connected. Therefore, if the seven orifices and nine apertures of the fetus are not patent, how can the four limbs and hundred bones develop and grow? This is mainly caused by heat accumulation. Extreme heat in the Lung Meridian knots at the umbilical region, blocking the infant's descent. After birth, the abdomen lacks moisture, becoming dry and closed. If cold-natured medicines are administered, blockage worsens; if warm-neutral medicines are not used, blockage persists. This indicates that the infant's Qi is disordered, the intestines become increasingly deficient and sluggish, and the anal canal becomes dry and closed, which is alarming. Formulas are not detailed in texts, and drugs fail, rapidly leading to this state. For such cases, one must penetrate and unblock using an object. Gold hairpins are best, jade hairpins are secondary. Insert Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill) into the orifice, piercing about three cun deep. Passage of stool brings relief. I have seen cases where the anal sphincter was closed, urination was normal, but defecation was impossible until death. Ignorant people pierced with hot wires, which was a last resort. Since muscle closure is involved, there is no miraculous formula. Try piercing with heavy gold or jade objects, which is superior to hot wires. Wise individuals have other ingenious methods; please record them here to aid those in distress, which is appropriate. For neonates with fetal heat who cannot pass stool in one or two days, administering Xixin San (Heart-Cleansing Powder) until patency is achieved is effective. Si Shun Yin (Four-Obedience Decoction) added with Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba) and decocted is also good.
It is said that the Small Intestine is the Fu-organ of the Heart. Water channels flow according to Qi movement. If Heart Qi is obstructed, urination is difficult or absent; if Heart Qi is cold, urination is frequent and dribbling (sound 'wei', meaning pouring/spilling); if Heart Qi is cold, urination is frequent and spinning (referring to urgency or dripping); if Heart Qi is hot, urination is difficult and scanty; if Heart Qi accumulates heat, urine is white and red (turning from red to white first). The term "bi xiaobian" (closure of urination) refers to lower jiao stagnation, with abdominal tightness, distension, and fullness, lacking smooth passage. With intense accumulated heat, straining yields only drops, which constitutes true obstruction. Pain in the heart area, mental confusion, and palpitations occur. Quickly use several raw Earthworms (Di Long, *Pheretima*), mix with a little honey, grind, and apply to the penis and scrotum. Additionally, burn mulberry silkworm pupa casing paper ash to retain its property, grind together with Cinnabar (Zhusha, *Cinnabaris*) and Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian, *Borneol*), and Musk (Shexiang, *Moschus*). Decoct Ophiopogonis Radix (Mendong, *Ophiopogonis Radix*) and Junci Medulla (Dixin, *Junci Medulla*) to mix with the powder. Effect is seen within half a shi (approx. 1 hour).
