Amber is the resinous fluid of the sea pine. Initially resembling peach gum, it later solidifies. It is warm in nature and primarily serves to stop bleeding, promote tissue regeneration, calm the heart (Shen), improve vision, and break up masses (Zheng Jia) and qi accumulations. For conditions such as postpartum blood syncope (Xue Yun) with fainting, and postpartum abdominal pain (Er Zhen Tong), this prescription is suitable for administration. The formula consists of: Amber 1 liang, Turtle Shell (Bie Jia) 1 liang, Burreed Rhizome (Jing San Leng) 1 liang, Corydalis Rhizome (Yan Hu Suo) 0.5 liang, Myrrh (Mo Yao) 0.5 liang, and Rhubarb (Da Huang) 6 zhu. These are processed by boiling and then pounded into a powder. Take three qian bi with wine on an empty stomach, twice daily. The efficacy is miraculous and unparalleled. For postpartum patients, reduce the dosage of Rhubarb. To verify authenticity, rub it warmly in the palm of the hand; if it attracts mustard seeds, it is genuine. There is also Southern Amber, but its quality does not match that imported from overseas. (Cited from *Daguan Bencao*, Vol. 12, p. 19; *Zhenghe Bencao*, p. 297; *Bencao Gangmu*, p. 1471)
According to the *Zhengjing*, it grows in the valleys of the South Sea. It tastes bitter and is warm in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats epigastric and abdominal pain, cholera (Huo Luan), evil qi invasion (Zhong E), and ghostly afflictions (Gui Zhu), and can clear and calm the spirit (Shen). It is best administered after decocting in wine. For various sores and swellings, it is suitable for inclusion in plasters. One should test it with water to discern details: those that sink are Agarwood (Chen Xiang); those that float are Sandalwood (Tan); those resembling chicken bones are Chicken Bone Fragrance (Ji Gu Xiang); those resembling horse hooves are Horse Hoof Fragrance (Ma Ti Xiang); those resembling ox heads are Ox Head Fragrance (Niu Tou Xiang); those with fine, solid branches are Green Cassia (Qing Gui); and those that are coarse and heavy are Jian Fragrance (Jian Xiang). All seven of these fragrances come from the same tree. In Sanskrit, it is called "Bo Lv," which refers to this type of incense. (Cited from *Daguan Bencao*, Vol. 12, p. 43; *Zhenghe Bencao*, p. 308; *Bencao Gangmu*, p. 1361)
According to the *Guangzhi*: Olibanum (Xun Lu Xiang, i.e., Frankincense) is the scale-like bark of the tree, and the tree regenerates after harvesting. (Cited from *Daguan Bencao*, Vol. 12, p. 45; *Zhenghe Bencao*, p. 309; *Bencao Gangmu*, p. 1371)
According to the *Guangzhi*: It grows in the South Sea and is the resin of the Persian pine. Those that are purple-red like cherries are of the highest grade. Immortal prescriptions often use it for Bigu (fasting/abstaining from grains) and additionally treat deafness, wind-stroke with jaw stiffness and inability to speak, and effectively manage women's blood and qi disorders. It can ferment rice wine into a milky beverage. Those that are red and transparent are of the highest grade. (Cited from *Daguan Bencao*, Vol. 12, p. 47; *Zhenghe Bencao*, p. 309)
