Huzhang Cao (Pinellia ternata Herb), with a bitter and pungent taste, is cold in nature. It possesses slight toxicity. It promotes the circulation of meridians, attacks heat-toxins, and eliminates phlegm-toxins in the stomach; when phlegm-toxins exist in the stomach, it leads to vomiting after eating. It reduces redness and swelling of various sores such as carbuncles and furuncles, and treats blood-wind, scabies, leprosy, and tinea. It treats scrofula nodules, tubercles, phlegm-nodules, and qi-scrofula. If there is ulceration, (Extraordinary Formula) named Wuhu Tang (Five Tiger Decoction) is used to treat phlegm-cough, qi-stagnation, and scrofula nodules that are swollen and hard like peaches or plums, unruptured, and growing around the neck.
Huzhang Cao (2 liang), Xiao Jiuguniu (1 liang), Zi Xiakucao (1 liang), Baitouweng (1 liang), Weilingxian (5 qian). Soak in 2 jin of good wine, warm and take three cups every night. Recovery occurs in twenty-one days, and nodules dissipate naturally. It can be used for those with excess qi, but is contraindicated for those with deficient qi.
(Added Supplementary Formulas) For the same symptoms as above:
Beimu, Xiangfu, Chuanxiong, Lianqiao, Niuxi, Niubangzi, Xiakucao, Fangfeng in equal parts, taken with water and wine as a guide. For qi deficiency, assist with Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction); for blood deficiency, use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction).
── Congben Volume Upper
Huzhang Cao resembles Tian Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome). In the past, when the Old Man from Dongshan was in Yunnan, every citizen in Yunnan was infected with plague, suddenly developing a ding (carbuncle) with a red line on the body. If the line penetrated the heart, death would ensue. Quickly applying this herb externally yields miraculous effects. If the red ding ruptures, a white thorn-like hair appears inside; remove it with a needle, and apply this herb around the area to save the people. This condition is common among people living in fiery lands in Yunnan.
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), with a bitter and neutral taste, is cold in nature. Its property is ascending, belonging to yang within yin. It guides other herbs to circulate through the four meridians. It releases the exterior to treat exogenous cold without sweating, and is an essential herb for releasing the exterior to treat childhood smallpox/rashes. It resolves toxins from various sores and ulcers, stops toothache in the Yangming meridian, and dispels wind-heat.

Decoct with a bundle of lamp wick (Dengxin) as a guide. For cough, add Sangpi (Morus Alba Root Bark), Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Pericarpium), and Xingren (Prunus Armeniaca Seed). For wheezing, add Suzi (Perilla Fructus) and Chuan Beimu (Fritillaria Cirrhosa Bulb).
