Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), bitter and acrid in flavor, warm in nature. Enters the Lung Meridian. Treats nasal obstruction with loss of smell, cold pathogen invading the Taiyin Lung Meridian causing lung-cold cough. The aerial parts disperse cold pathogens and induce sweating to release the exterior. The root nodes stop sweating, consolidate the defensive Qi, secure deficiency, clear Lung Qi, and eliminate throat obstruction; "obstruction" refers to the sensation of a plum pit in the throat that cannot be swallowed or expectorated. Mahuang is contraindicated for those with Qi deficiency, as excessive sweating may lead to Yang collapse.
(Attached Prescription) For treating post-wind-strike conditions where cold pathogens linger in the Lung Meridian, causing nasal obstruction, loss of smell, turbid nasal discharge, or developing into "brain leakage" (chronic purulent rhinitis).
Mahuang (15g, soaked in milk and dried), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel, 9g), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root, 6g), Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit, 6g, stir-fried), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome, 6g), Heidou (Black Soybean, 9g, hulled and stir-fried). All are ground into fine powder. Take 3g per dose, washed down with Zhu Ye (Bamboo Leaf) decoction.

Tiexian Mudan (Paeonia suffruticosa var. or similar vine species), bitter and slightly acrid in flavor, warm in nature. Enters the Spleen and Kidney meridians. It can ascend and descend; ascending warms the Spleen and Stomach, stopping vomiting and nausea; descending enters the Kidney, supporting weak Mingmen (Gate of Life) ministerial fire, warming the Dantian, and tonifying fire to stimulate Yang.
(Attached Prescription) For treating regurgitation and vomiting, chest and epigastric fullness after eating, stomach pain, acid regurgitation, and phlegm expectoration.
Tiexian Mudan (flowers, leaves, stems, and roots all usable) are ground into fine powder. Take 4.5g per dose, taken with boiling water mixed with wine. Avoid fish, mutton, eggs, garlic, and raw/cold foods.

Tiexian Mudan resembles Paeonia suffruticosa but grows as a vine. Flowers are jade-green, with smaller petals inside larger ones. Flavor is bitter. Slightly toxic. Mainly treats all types of sores and ulcers, used both externally and internally.

Xiuqiu Teng (Clematis or similar vine), grows in mountainous areas near water. The vines intertwine, bearing clusters of small fine leaves. Bitter in flavor, slightly cold in nature. Non-toxic. Mainly treats sores in the lower body and scrotal pruritus (scrotal eczema/itching). Washing with it yields miraculous effects. For treating Tian Chuang (chancre/syphilitic ulcer), bake until dry, grind into fine powder, and sprinkle on the sore. Three doses yield miraculous results, commonly known as Yangmei Jiedu (bayberry poison/toxic chancre). Also burned to ash to treat Bi Gan Chuang (nasal furuncle/ulcer), blown into the nose. Or if poisoned by toxins affecting the Lung, causing loss of smell, blowing the ash into the nose will immediately clear the nasal passages.
