尽三升，乃去裙、肋骨，炙干入用。若治劳去热药，不用醋，用童子小便煎，尽一斗二升，

[Li Shizhen said] All crabs that are boiled and then preserved with salt, pickled in wine lees, soaked in wine, or marinated in soy sauce are considered excellent products. However, if kept for a long time, they tend to turn into sand; exposure to lamp light also causes them to become sandy.
[Kou Zongshi said] When using Ostreae Concha (Oyster Shell, 牡蛎), it must be sealed with mud and calcined into powder. There are also cases where it is used raw.
[Zhang Yuansu said] When using Ostreae Concha (Oyster Shell, 牡蛎), take twenty shells first, add flowing water from the east and one tael of salt, boil for one double-hour (two hours), then place them in fire until red-hot, grind into powder, and use.
[Li Shizhen said] According to Wen Ju Yin: "Soak Ostreae Concha (Oyster Shell, 牡蛎) in urine of a young boy for four..." (The original text here seems incomplete; based on context, it implies soaking for a period).
[Li Xun said] When using Pearl (Zhenzhu, 珍珠), only those that are newly complete, unperforated, and unstrung should be ground into powder for consumption. If not finely ground, it will damage the internal organs.

[Li Shizhen said] For medicinal pearls, do not use those from jewelry or those exposed to the odor of corpses. Soak them in human milk for three days, boil according to the above method, then crush and grind. Another method: Place them in a silk bag, put inside the cavity of a tofu block, and boil for the duration of one incense stick; it is said that this prevents damage to the pearl.
[A certain physician said] When using Haige (Sea Clam Shell, 海蛤), do not use the bones of the Youbo worm. They look similar, but the true ones lack luster on the surface. Ingesting them by mistake causes madness and a desire to jump into water.
[Wash three times with flowing water from the east, grind into powder, and use.]
[Baosheng said] After obtaining Haige (Sea Clam Shell, 海蛤), boil it in Ban Tian He (Half Sky River/Rainwater) for fifty ke (approx. 12.5 hours), mix evenly with Ligustrum Lucidum Fruit Juice (Gouqi Juice, 枸杞汁), place in a bamboo tube, steam for one double-hour, then crush and use.
