\r锁喉风图\p05-c16a48.bmp\r
Achyranthes root is washed clean, crushed to extract juice, mixed with a small amount of human milk, and administered orally. If the patient cannot swallow, the liquid is instilled into the nasal cavity.
Throat Bi (Sore Throat) caused by Heat-Toxin affecting the Heart and Spleen channels is difficult to treat. The throat becomes painful and obstructed; swelling resembles an arm lesion, eyes roll upward, and the face appears crimson. Treatment involves inducing expectoration of phlegm and frequent application of "Ben Mi" (Secret Powder). Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction (Ziziju Jiedu Tang) is effective. If ineffective, bloodletting and frequent powder application are used, along with frequent rinsing with Achyranthes root decoction.
\rYin-Du Throat Bi Diagram\p05-c16a25.bmp\r
This condition arises in winter from Yin-dampness and Fire-Evil. Swelling resembles a purple plum with slight black discoloration. External symptoms include aversion to cold, fever, lumbar pain, and headache. Bloodletting yielding red blood indicates a treatable case; black blood indicates untreatability. Soft swelling with phlegm is treatable; hard swelling with dry phlegm is difficult to treat. Initial treatment involves Huadu Dan (Detoxification Pill), followed by Su Zi Jiang Qi Tang (Perilla Seed Descending Qi Decoction) and powder application. Alcohol must be abstained from for one month.
Yin-Du Throat Bi stems from Yin-dampness and attacking Fire-Evil, presenting urgently with purple-plum-like swelling and aversion to cold. Red blood is treatable, black blood is not. The rumor that "no phlegm means untreatable" is debatable; however, dry phlegm is difficult. Huadu Dan and Jiangqi Tang are taken, and secret powder is applied with miraculous effect.
\rJiu-Du Throat Bi Diagram\p05-c16a26.bmp\r
This condition results from Fire in the Upper Jiao (Heart and Spleen channels) due to alcohol injury. Swelling resembles a chicken egg, bright red, shiny like a mirror, obstructing the throat. Symptoms include fever, aversion to cold, headache, and neck swelling. Treatment involves applying "Ben" medicine, bloodletting, then applying "Mi" medicine, and internally taking Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction.
Jiu-Du Throat Bi arises from drinking; red swelling in the throat resembles a chicken egg, with aversion to heat and cold, and head/neck pain. Applying Ben medicine and bloodletting restores life. Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction with Licorice and Kudzu Root is sufficient; no other formulas are needed.
\rHou Bi (Throat Closure) Diagram\p05-c16a27.bmp\r
This condition is caused externally by Cold invasion and internally by excessive heat from diet. Taking hot baths after severe cold allows Cold to enter the Spleen channel, blocking the Zhongwan point, while Pathogenic Heat resides in the Heart channel, causing sudden closure and Qi obstruction, often fatal. Emergency treatment involves pricking the purple vein on the wrist or Shaoshang (LU 11) acupoint with a three-edged needle to bleed. Administer Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxification Pill) dissolved in cold water, apply Jin Suo Chi (Golden Key) powder to expel phlegm, and take Bazheng Shunqi Tang (Eight-Righteous Qi-Smooth Decoction).
Why does Throat Closure occur? Due to Wind-Cold and Heat, Cold enters the Spleen, Heat enters the Heart, causing sudden closure. Prick Shaoshang and wrist veins with a three-edged needle. Realgar detoxifies best. Jin Suo Chi powder enters the throat, and Bazheng Shunqi Tang treats it.
\rShanghan Hou Bi Diagram\p05-c16a28.bmp\r
This condition occurs when residual toxins from Cold Damage (Shanghan) fail to dissipate. After eight to nine days, throat swelling and closure result from Heat-Toxin entering the Heart and Spleen channels. Immediately administer Siqi Tang (Four-Seven Decoction) for two to three doses, apply secret powder, hold Bingmei Wan (Ice Plum Pill) in the mouth, then take Juandu Yin (Toxin-Removing Drink).
A Shanghan patient had a tongue protruding over an inch, unable to retract for days. Sprinkling Plum Blossom Borneol on the tongue retracted it immediately; five out of ten cases healed. Throat Closure from Shanghan residual toxin involves Heat entering Heart/Spleen. Take three doses of Siqi Tang first, apply secret powder and hold Ice Plum for better efficacy. Follow Juandu Liqi formula as prescribed; one dose is worth a thousand gold.
\rFeiyang (Flying Ulcer) Diagram\p05-c16a29.bmp\r
This condition is caused by foul air and subsequent anger, leading to sudden throat swelling that can be fatal. Apply Jin Suo Chi powder to remove phlegm, take Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction with Safflower (Honghua) and Moutan Bark (Danpi). If redness/swelling persists, incise to drain blood, then apply secret powder. Cases with nausea and abdominal distension are difficult to treat.
Feiyang stems from intense anger or foul toxin poisoning, causing sudden fatal swelling. Jin Suo Chi application is miraculous. Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction with Honghua and Danpi is effective.
\rSongzi (Pine Nut) Houfeng Diagram\p05-c16a30.bmp\r
This condition arises from Wind-Heat in the Upper Jiao. It resembles a pine nut, color like pig liver, with red mouth and throat. Opening the mouth causes Qi rebellion; closing it prevents eating/drinking. Use Jin Suo Chi to remove phlegm, apply Ben/Mi powders, prick swelling with a small knife to bleed, then reapply powders and take Sanhuang Liangge San (Three-Yellows Cooling Diaphragm Powder) with Schizonepeta (Jingjie) and Saposhnikovia (Fangfeng).
Songzi Houfeng resembles a pine nut, pig-liver colored near the throat. Mouth opening causes Qi rebellion; swallowing is impossible. Jin Suo Chi blows out phlegm; secret powder with needle pricks. Rapidly administer Sanhuang Liangge San with Jingjie for miraculous effect.
\rJiaogen (Heel) Houfeng Diagram\p05-c16a31.bmp\r
This condition spreads from the foot to the throat, occurring once a year or every six months. The pathogen moves one acupoint per day, seven points in seven days, reaching the throat. It appears crystal-clear like fish brain. Apply Ben powder first, then Mi powder, and internally take Jingfang Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Toxin-Resolving Powder). Death ensues if the discharge is foul-smelling after onset.
Jiaogen Houfeng starts from the foot, caused by emotional stagnation. Occurs annually or semi-annually, forming fish-brain-like growths in the throat. Apply Ben/Mi powders to painful areas frequently. Jingfang Baidu San eradicates the root. Foul-smelling phlegm post-onset indicates death; physicians must evaluate carefully.
\rYin-Du Houfeng Diagram\p05-c16a32.bmp\r
This condition results from improper seasonal Qi and extreme cold, generating Shaoyin Syndrome: faint, fine, deep pulse, spontaneous sweating, and throat difficulty. Also known as Kidney Cold Damage. Avoid cold-natured herbs. Use Banxia Guizhi Tang (Pinellia and Cinnamon Twig Decoction) or Kujiu Tang (Bitter Wine Decoction). For organ cold causing throat closure, use Honey-fried Aconite (Mifu Zi).
Yin-Du Houfeng presents with fine/deep pulse, sweating, and sore throat (Shaoyin). Cold herbs are contraindicated. Guizhi, Gancao, and Banxia restore life. Kujiu Tang cures this; one dose is miraculous. Organ cold/throat closure uses Mifu Zi; these unique prescriptions come from *San Yin Fang*.
\rHoujie (Throat Boil) Diagram\p05-c16a33.bmp\r
This condition arises in the deep throat (Xiongwei), initially like a plum pit between the throat and diaphragm, caused by emotional factors. Incise with a knife, apply Bingpeng San (Borneol and Borax Powder), and take Xionghuang Huadu Wan (Realgar Detoxification Pill) and Siqi Tang. Cure follows.
Houjie originates from emotions, obstructing swallowing. Incise and apply Bingpeng San. Xionghuang Huadu Wan has miraculous effects. Follow with Siqi Tang for complete cure.
\rHouxuan (Throat Lichen) Diagram\p05-c16a34.bmp\r
This condition is caused by Wind-Heat or excessive drinking, leading to Upper Jiao Fire-Dryness. The interior and exterior of the throat appear white. Apply secret powder and take Shandougen Tang (Tephrosia Root Decoction).
Houxuan stems from Heat/Qi, with Upper Jiao Fire attacking the throat. White throat requires secret powder. Shandougen Tang is most effective.
\rHouliu (Throat Tumor) Diagram\p05-c16a35.bmp\r
This condition results from Lung Channel Heat, excessive talking damaging Qi, angry shouting, rapid reading, excessive strong wine, or fried/roasted foods. Growths appear on either side of the throat, single or double, resembling longan seeds, wrapped in blood vessels, painful upon touch. Calm the spirit, rest, and treat with herbs. Do not use knives. Apply Shexiang San (Musk Powder) and take Yiqi Shufeng Tang (Qi-Nourishing Wind-Dispersing Decoction).
Houliu grows on throat sides like longan seeds, single or double. Painful and hard. Rest and calm spirit. Do not prick with knives. Yiqi Shufeng Tang is excellent. Blow Shexiang San powder; no need to pray to heaven.
\rHouqiu (Throat Ball) Diagram\p05-c16a36.bmp\r
This condition arises from external Six Qi and internal Seven Emotions. A fleshy ball grows inside the throat, size of a longan seed, with a root like a thread over five inches long. Food intake is only possible after expelling the ball. Gentle manipulation causes heart-piercing pain. Take Yiqi Shufeng Tang. Use genuine Musk (2 qian), divided into two doses with water, or take Shexiang San three times until the root dissolves and cure is achieved.
Houqiu resembles a longan seed, connected by flesh/thread, hindering eating. Caused by emotions/Qi. Pulling the ball causes heart pain. Yiqi Shufeng Tang removes the root. Shexiang San administration is miraculous.
\rFengre Houdan (Wind-Heat Throat Erythema) Diagram\p05-c16a37.bmp\r
This condition is caused by Wind-Heat, excessive mental labor, or speaking into the wind, entering the Lung channel. Color is bright red, turning crimson-purple over time. Treatment prioritizes phlegm removal. Apply secret powder, prick to bleed, allowing Fire to drain. Take Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction to clear heat and cool blood; purple turns red, and gradual healing occurs. Fengre Houdan stems from worry/Wind entering Lung producing phlegm. Bright red swelling/closure requires probing phlegm, blowing powder, and needle pricks. Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction cools blood and disperses wind effectively.
\rQizi (Qi Nodule) Diagram\p05-c16a38.bmp\r
This condition arises from Qi Stagnation and seasonal Wind-Heat in the throat. Resembles a red bead, varying purple or white, painful on touch. Long-term leads to throat Qi obstruction. Prick to bleed, apply secret powder, and take Qingqi Liyan Tang (Clear Qi Benefit Throat Decoction). If Fire is strong with purple color, add Huangqin and Huanglian, remove Banxia and Shengjiang. If deficiency-Fire is mild but painful on exertion, add Xuanshen, Dihuang, Chuanxiong, Danggui, Zhimu, and Huangbai.
Qizi resembles a bead due to Qi stagnation, red/purple in throat. Mental effort triggers it. Long-term Qi obstruction requires initial pricking and secret powder. Qingqi Li Ge is a wonderful agent bringing joy.
\rZouma Yagan (Running-Horse Gum Rot) Diagram\p05-c16a39.bmp\r
This condition results from fried/roasted foods, alcohol, and rich sweets, stirring Yangming Stomach Fire and producing Damp-Heat. Gums rot rapidly, turning black and spreading quickly ("Running Horse"). Severe cases involve gum detachment, black roots, cheek/lip perforation, mouth involvement, and throat entry (untreatable). Treat by pricking Shaoshang acupoint to determine prognosis. Wipe with "Wuhou Niangan" decoction, apply Ben/Mi powders. For nasal rot, add Borneol and Musk. Rinse with detoxifying water. Apply fried Cyperus powder to ulcers and blow Ben/Mi powders. Take Sanhuang Tang, then Zizyphus Detoxifying Decoction. For nasal rot, take Tufuling powder for five doses. Children take Lushui Xiaoguan Yin, blow secret powder, or Renzhongbai San/Bingpeng San. If tooth tips pierce lips painfully, incise, remove necrosis, and apply powder. Success requires removing black necrosis and seeing red bleeding. Hoarseness, dryness, non-detaching necrosis, bloodless tooth loss, lip perforation, persistent fever, and throat entry are all untreatable.
Zouma Yagan is swift like a horse, arising from Yangming rich diet. Gums rot black/detach, spreading to nose. Wipe frequently with Wuhou Niangan.
\rYayong (Gum Abscess) Diagram\p05-c16a40.bmp\r
This condition is Stomach Fire rushing upward, appearing on gums as bean- or finger-sized purple, hard, painful swellings. Apply Ben medicine, incise, then apply Mi medicine. For headache/aversion to cold, use Jingfang Baidu San with Shengma and Gegen to release the exterior, followed by Qingwei Tang. Press the needle handle on soft spots to locate the head acupoint, puncture to drain pus/blood.
Yayong starts on gums, bean-sized, painful. Fever/chills/headache require Jingfang, Shengma, Gegen for exterior release. Blow Mi powder and lightly prick abscess head. Take Qingwei Tang later.

\rYinchuang (Yin Ulcer) Diagram\p05-c16a44.bmp\r
This condition is caused by Wind-Heat-Damp stagnation or fried/cooked foods, appearing left or right. Wash hands/feet in hot water to open Spleen/Stomach. Apply Jingu San externally, blow Mi powder into the wound. After one day, wash with water medicine, apply Babao Gao. After 13-14 days, apply Baigao. If the wound does not close and penetrates the throat, fumigate externally with Zixia Yun. When smoke exits the mouth, take Sanhuang Tang plus Huisheng San, plus four powdered herbs: Fanbaicao, Wujia Pi, Baixianpi, and Heichou (equal parts). Grind to powder, boil with Huisheng San, and take. Also take Xueshi Tang and Huanhun Yin. If pus exists, take Neituo Qianjin San; males suck females, females suck males to remove pus. Avoid stimulating foods.
Yinchuang Wind-Damp causes lesions on throat sides. Wash hands/feet, avoid Erchen Tang. Blow Mi, apply Jingu San. Seal wound with plaster, fumigate Zixia. Sanhuang plus Huisheng San, Yingzhou four herbs and Huanhun Yin.
\rHamawang (Toad Plague) Diagram\p05-c16a45.bmp\r
This condition is caused by improper seasonal Qi, initially resembling Wind-Cold with ear/neck swelling. Toxicity enters the throat causing swelling/pain, swallowing difficulty, and contagious spread. Onset features chills/fever, stiffness, dizziness, floating/tight/rapid pulse (Exterior). Release with Jingfang Baidu San. Eye/nose/face swelling indicates Yangming involvement: fever, constipation, dry mouth, more heat than cold, forceful rapid pulse (Interior). Purge with Dahuang Tang (5 qian). Head/ear swelling with severe pain, chills/vomiting, dry mouth/throat, extreme restlessness: harmonize with Zhimu Shigao Tang or Xiao Chaihu Tang. Generally use Fangfeng Tongsheng San with Niubangzi and Xuanshen to detoxify and release exterior/interior. During famine/contagion, use Puji Xiaodu Yin or Huoxiang Zhengqi San to stabilize. If exterior/interior resolved but swelling persists, prick to remove bad blood. High heat: apply Jingu San. If still unresolved and suppuration desired, use Tuoli Xiaosan with Baizhi and Zaocispina to support. Lance when pus forms. Post-ulcer fatigue/low appetite: Buyi Yiqi Tang. Pus/foulness/Spleen deficiency/vomiting: Xiangsha Yangwei Wan. Non-healing ulcer: Shiquan Dabu Tang. If Three Yang channels are affected, neck swelling, watery sheen, closed eyes, white paper-like lips, drooling, voice loss, inability to eat/drink, throat closure, locked jaw, foul flowing water, and incessant foul odor indicate untreatability. During epidemics, avoid purgatives; harmonize to nourish Righteous Qi.
