Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) treats diseases caused by summerheat-dampness, presenting with fever, headache, restlessness, and thirst.
The formula is found in the section on Diarrhea.
Guiling Wan (Cinnamon and Poria Pill) treats heatstroke with vexation and thirst, excessive drinking leading to epigastric and abdominal fullness, and scanty dark urine.
Ingredients: Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi, peeled), Fuling (Poria, each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into powder, form pills with honey, making ten pills per liang of powder. Chew one pill thoroughly and swallow with warm water.
Note: The above are examples of herbs for the Foot-Taiyang channel.
Suopi Yin (Spleet-Spleen Decoction) resolves latent heat, relieves vexation and thirst, clears summerheat toxicity, and stops vomiting, diarrhea, and cholera.
Ingredients: Sharen (Fructus Amomi), Caoguo (Fructus Tsaoko), Wumei Rou (Endocarpium Pruni Mume), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried, each 4 liang), Biandou (Semina Dolichoris), Gange (Radix Puerariae Lobatae, each 2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with water, and take cold.
Note: This formula involves herbs of the Hand-Taiyin, Foot-Taiyin, Foot-Shaoyin, and Foot-Yangming channels.
Xiaoshu Shiquan Yin (Summerheat-Clearing Ten-Ingredient Decoction)
Ingredients: Xiangru (Herba Elsholtziae), Biandou (Semina Dolichoris), Nongpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Zisu (Folium Perillae), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Fuling (Poria), Huoxiang (Herba Agastachis), Mugua (Fructus Chaenomelis), Tanxiang (Lignum Santali Rubrum).
Preparation and Administration: Cut the herbs into small pieces and decoct with water.
Note: This is a qi-regulating formula for the Hand-Taiyin and Foot-Taiyin channels. However, since these two formulas are widely used in common practice today, they are retained here for reference.
Xiaodu Wan (Toxin-Dispersing Pill) treats injury from summerheat causing fever and headache.
Ingredients: Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Fuling (Poria, each half jin).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder, make pills using ginger juice as a binder to the consistency of a thin paste, sized like sophora seeds. Take 50 pills with water.
Simple Prescription: Boil Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) in good vinegar, then use ginger juice to make pills.
Note: This involves herbs of the Foot-Sanyang, Foot-Shaoyin, and Hand-Taiyin channels.
Dashun San (Great Harmony Powder) treats heatstroke with latent heat, excessive drinking causing dampness in the spleen and stomach, failure to separate clear from turbid, rebellion of yin and yang qi, resulting in cholera, vomiting, and disharmony of the zang-fu organs.
Ingredients: Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Jiangjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, dried), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, peeled and tip removed), Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi, peeled).
Preparation and Administration: First stir-fry Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) with white sand. Then add Jiangjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, dried), followed by Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum). Stir-fry, sieve to remove sand, wash clean, mix with Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi), and grind into powder. Take 2-3 qian per dose, mixed with decoction.
Note: This is an example of Taiyang channel medication.
Lengxiang Yinzi (Cold-Fragrance Infusion) treats injury from summerheat, cholera with abdominal pain, restlessness, and a deep, faint, or hidden pulse.
The formula is found in the Cholera section.
Laifu Dan (Restoring Return Pellet) treats persistent summerheat causing diarrhea, body heat, and weak pulse.
Ingredients: Xiaoshi (Natrii Nitras, 1 liang, lightly stir-fried with Liuhuang (Sulfur) over fire, stirred with willow twig until it forms sand-like grains, do not over-cook), Taiyin Xuanjingshi (Gypsum Fibrosum, ground), Boshang Liuhuang (Sulfur imported by ship, 1 liang), Wulingzhi (Excrement Trogopteri, free of sand/stones), Qingpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, each 2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into powder, mix evenly, and bind with good vinegar paste to make pills the size of rabbit seeds. Take 20 pills per dose on an empty stomach with rice drink.
Note: This formula originates from Jueyin channel prescriptions. It effectively unblocks the Triple Burner, regulates yin and yang, warms the stomach, and opens stagnation. It is very swift in treating sudden chaotic disorders, confusion of spirit, and sinking of primordial qi. However, it should not be used if the cause is summerheat-fire or damp-heat.
