Danxi Buyin Wan (Dandani Nourishing Yin Pill)
The prescription is recorded in the "Tonifying Deficiency" category.
Jufang Jiaban Shwei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill from the Imperial Medical Bureau) treats Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome) caused by Kidney Deficiency, characterized by thirst and excessive drinking.
Jinkui Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill from the Golden Cabinet) with Fuzi (Aconite Lateralis Radix Preparata) removed and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) added.
The above are taken according to the methods described in this chapter. *Yao Lue* (Essentials of the Synopsis) for treating male Xiao Ke with frequent urination still uses this formula.
Jianyi Dihuang Yinzi (Simple Rehmannia Decoction) treats Xiao Ke accompanied by dry throat, red face, and irritability.
Herbs: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Shu Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Huang [Character missing in original, likely Huangqi or Huangqin], Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium, hairs removed and stir-fried), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, stir-fried), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, stir-fried, equal parts).
The herbs are cut into pieces. Each dose of 3 qian is decocted in water and taken orally.
Note: This formula involves herbs acting on the Heart, Kidney, Spleen, and Lung. The above three formulas are primarily agents for treating Xia Xiao (Lower Wasting-Thirst).
Zhusha Huanglian Wan (Cinnabar and Coptis Pill) treats Xiao Ke caused by Heart Deficiency with accumulated Heat, or excessive alcohol consumption.
Herbs: Zhusha (Cinnabaris, 1 liang), Xuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 3 liang), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 2 liang).
The herbs are ground into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take 40-50 pills per dose, delivered with a decoction of Dengxincao (Junci Medulla) and Dazao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus).
Note: This formula involves herbs acting on the Heart and Spleen; it is an agent for treating Shang Xiao (Upper Wasting-Thirst).
Jufang Huangqi Liuyi Tang (Imperial Bureau Astragalus Six-to-One Decoction) treats various deficiencies and insufficiencies in both men and women, chest irritability and palpitations, frequent Xiao Ke; or cases where thirst precedes sores, or sores precede thirst. It is suitable for all such conditions.
See previous text for the formula.
Note: This formula involves herbs acting on the Lung, Kidney, Spleen, Sanjiao (Triple Burner), and Mingmen (Gate of Life).
Dongyuan Shengjin Ganlu Yinzi (Dongyuan Generating Fluids Sweet Dew Decoction) treats Gao Xiao (High/Severe Upper Wasting-Thirst), characterized by extreme thirst with unlimited drinking, redness and astringency on the tongue, numbness of upper and lower teeth, stiffness, swelling, and pain of the tongue root, difficulty eating, frequent abdominal distension and pain, yellowish complexion, yellow sclera, even flaccidity and weakness of the four limbs, dusty and faded facial color, hypochondriac urgency and pain, frequent sneezing, irritability, coldness of the buttocks, waist, and back, and severe coldness of the two Kao (ischial regions).
Herbs: Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 1 qian 2 fen), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, each 1 qian), Bai Kui [Likely Baishaoyao or similar, character unclear], Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Lanxiang (Pogostemonis Herba), Danggui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, each half qian), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 3 qian), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Bidengqie (Schlumbergerae Fructus, each 1 qian), Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba, 2 fen), Quanxie (Scorpio, 2 units), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, wine-processed, each 2 qian), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, each 3 fen), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Baidoukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jianghuang (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, each 1 qian), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, wine-mixed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, each 1 qian 5 fen).

Note: This formula involves herbs acting on the Lung, Stomach, Heart, and Kidney. Dongyuan stated: This preparation is mild; it not only prevents middle-jiao fullness but also prevents transmission to Lower Wasting-Thirst. It can be used for all three types of Xiao Ke.
Xuanming Maimendong Yinzi (Xuanming Ophiopogon Decoction) treats Ge Xiao (Diaphragm Wasting-Thirst), characterized by chest fullness, irritability, scanty body fluids, shortness of breath, and frequent Xiao Ke.
