Secret Formula: Treats Yangmei Xuan (Chancre-like Eczema) and chronic stubborn eczema.
Take 3 qian of genuine Ejiao (Donkey-hide gelatin), add to 4 liang of Tung oil, boil until it boils several times, remove the Ejiao, then immediately add 2 liang of finely ground Mituoseng (Lead Monoxide), process into a plaster, then add 2 qian each of pure powders of Ruxiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrh), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood), Ercha (Catechu), and Qingfen (Calomel). Remove from fire, mix evenly, spread and apply. For each sheet, add 1-2 fen of Hongshengdan (Red Sublimate), sprinkle on the lesion before applying. It is 100% effective.
After Yangmei Chuang (Syphilis) heals, residual eczema toxins remain, layer upon layer, with stubborn skin and unbearable itching.
Take Niuyou (Beef Tallow), Diqingtong (Bitumen), Xiangyou (Sesame Oil), Huangla (Yellow Beeswax) (1 liang each).
Melt together, wait for cooling, add 1.5 qian of Yinzhu (Cinnabar), 2 qian of Guanfen (White Lead Powder), 0.5 qian of Shexiang (Musk), mix well with the oil. Apply when the eczema is scratched open.
After Yangmei Chuang heals, eczema sores and Ezhangfeng (Eczema of the Palm) appear. (Recorded by Wang Zhongcheng.)
Take Niuyou (Beef Tallow), Zhuyou (Pork Lard) (2 liang each), Xiangyou (Sesame Oil), Huangla (Yellow Beeswax) (1 liang each).
Melt together, add 2 qian of Qianfen (Lead White), 1.5 qian of Yinzhu (Cinnabar), 0.5 qian of Shexiang (Musk), grind finely and mix into a paste. Apply to the eczema and roast with fire, reapply and roast again, as if sweeping away the disease.
Verified Formula: Raw Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) and BaiFan (Alum) in equal parts, ground together, apply to eliminate lesions, restoring original skin color.
Another Formula: Grind Qingguohe (Seed Kernel of Canarium Album) into juice, rub on the area to fade lesions.
Chen Shigong said: Jiedu (Condensed Toxin) occurs when sore toxins are at their peak but have not been dispersed; or they are steamed by medicinal heat; or extracted internally by taking Qingfen (Calomel); or converged by topical medications, causing toxins to sink into the bone marrow and attack outward after accumulation. Initially, there is pain in muscles and bones, gradually swelling up, appearing in unpredictable locations, hence symptoms such as collapsed nose bridge, missing lips, blocked throat, and limb spasms. Treatment methods: For early stages, use Xianyiliang Tang (Immortal Grain Decoction) or Yizi Tang (Soap Decoction); for toxins penetrating muscles and bones over years, select Wubao Dan (Five Treasures Pill) or Zijin Dan (Purple Gold Pill); for splitting headaches, use Chubi Biyun San (Blowing Nose Biyun Powder) as the main treatment. (*Waike Zhengzong*)
Hu Gongbi said: When taking spiritual medicines for Jiedu, the standard duration is twelve days. (*Wukui Qingnang*)
He also said: Jiedu occurring on the sole of the foot is called Louitifeng (Leaking Hoof Wind).
Jiang Shiji said: Jiedu has no fixed location; it results from insufficient medication for Yangmei Chuang, leaving internal toxins uneliminated, causing toxic qi to stagnate and sink into the bone marrow, attacking outward after accumulation. It starts with muscle and bone pain, gradually swelling, appearing anywhere. If it appears in joints, it damages tendons and bones, leading to stiffness even after healing; if in the mouth or nose, it causes nasal collapse and lip defects, resulting in disfigurement; if in the throat, it alters the voice; if in hands and feet, it impedes movement; if entering the crown, it causes severe headache and distending eye pain. Blow Biyun San into the nose to relieve headache. Early stage: Xianyiliang Tang, Jinchantuijia Jiu (Golden Cicada Molting Wine); for the weak: Xionggui Erchen Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Two-Aged Decoction); for long-standing cases: Wubao Dan; for non-healing wounds: Shiquan Dabu Tang (Complete Great Tonifying Decoction) with Tufuling (Smilax Glabra) added. Do not use fumigation, as it harms the body. (*Yangyi Shuoyue*)
Gu Shicheng said: I often see people who never had Yangmei Chuang developing Jiedu in limbs, waist, hips, or buttocks. This is invariably due to prior damp-heat carbuncles where pus toxins were not fully extracted, and doctors rushed to close the wound using Qingfen (Calomel) and Qianfen (Lead White). Unknowingly, the toxic qi was trapped inside. Over time, blisters form around old scars, causing pain, ulceration, tendon penetration, and bone erosion, recurring after healing. This is damp-heat Jiedu. Internally, tonification and pushing out toxins are needed; externally, Hongsheng Lingyao (Red Sublimate Spiritual Medicine) must be used to extract all toxic qi. Only when red granulation tissue grows flat can Shengji (Flesh-generating) methods be used to close the wound.
Liu Huitian said: Anyone who had Yangmei Chuang Chancre treated with medication and healed, but later exhibits any of the following ten-plus symptoms, should not be treated for other diseases; these are all Jiedu syndromes. 1. Initially like a boil, later enlarging and softening, eventually suppurating with unbearable foul odor, purple surrounding with yellow-white center: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Carbuncle/Furuncle. 2. Whole-body stiffness, bone/muscle pain, numbness, or sharp stabbing pain in one spot, deep red discoloration under skin without significant surface redness/swelling: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Deep-seated Carbuncle. 3. Cloud-shaped wheals all over, bone/muscle soreness, occasional itching, white pus upon scratching: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Leprosy. 4. Hard plaques on head/face/chest/back/limbs, leather-like texture, white scales and numb pain upon scratching: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Tinea. 5. Yellow skin on palms/soles, intermittent pain/itching, palm-like appearance: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Madness/Disease. 6. Whole-body redness resembling fire toxin, thirst, irritability, loose bones/muscles: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Red Roaming Carbuncle. 7. Purple-red macules/papules all over, uncontrollable pain/itching, bone pain like beating: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Maculopapular Rash/Urticaria. 8. Abdominal pain like intestinal colic, radiating to unbearable joint pain, later purulent stool: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Intestinal Abscess. 9. Nausea/vomiting clear water without phlegm, inability to move limbs, inability to eat, joint soreness: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Cardiac Dysphagia. 10. Sudden throat swelling and pain, whole-body joint pain, puncturing swelling releases bad blood but fails to heal, leading to fistula to nose or sublingual rot with unbearable pain/odor: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Throat Chancre. 11. Head/brain pain with skin swelling, deafness, dizziness, radiating joint pain: this is Qingfen-induced Jiedu, do not treat as Head Wind/Brain Wind. 12. Sudden sore anywhere on body with vertical meat buds, prolonged yellow discharge, delayed suppuration: this is the root of Yangmei Chuang, will definitely develop into full-blown Syphilis; treat with Yangmei Chuang formulas. Untreated, it spreads everywhere; treated, it is laborious. 13. Parents took Qingfen for Yangmei Chancre, healed themselves but passed latent toxin to infant. Infant develops red spots/purple patches near orifices after 3-9 days, forming small sores like snake nests, incessant crying, constipation/urinary retention, inability to nurse, high fever, hard abdomen: this is inherited Jiedu, do not treat as Fetal Toxin/Breast Eczema. Alas! Poisoning from Qingfen is not minor. Mildly, it damages the self’s form and constitution, injuring tendons and bones; severely, it passes toxin to descendants, damaging bones/joints or shortening life. Such great harm is truly tragic. Why do foolish patients seek quick cures for Yangmei Chuang from quacks, secretly taking Qingfen or mercury-sublimated spiritual pills? They only seek immediate relief, ignoring future toxicity. How harmful this is, how terrifying! Henceforth, anyone with Yangmei Chuang must absolutely avoid Qingfen and sublimated pills. Even if not cured immediately, it will eventually resolve without causing major Jiedu harm. Do not listen to quacks’ empty promises or easy cures with Qingfen, lest you suffer lifelong damage. The above twelve items are all Qingfen toxins; do not mistake them for other conditions or use different medicines, which will fail and worsen the condition. Though symptoms vary, the source is one: take Wubao Dan (Five Treasures Pill) to cure the illness, resolve residual toxins, and prevent hereditary harm.
Daoist Qi said: All Yangmei Chuang arises from damp-heat evil fire transforming into toxin. Practitioners usually use cold-cooling herbs. Although the toxin is resolved, cold causes coagulation while heat promotes flow. Long-term, this becomes pure Yin Jiedu. Thus, Pi Liu (Arsenic and Sulfur) spiritual medicines are used to attack cold with heat, which is the method for treating Yin Condensed Toxin. Some patients with Yin Toxic Yangmei Chuang have damp-heat evil fire that has not transformed, eventually condensing into Yang Toxic. Thus, mercury-sublimated Frost Cinnabar Pills are used. (From manuscript copy.)
He also said: Generally, treating Yangmei Jiedu etc., refer to Houren Jishi’s main formulas, using Wubao Dan (Five Treasures Pill) and Babao Dan (Eight Treasures Pill) is the best method for the wealthy. For the poor, there are faster methods listed below; choose and use them, and they will be effective.
He also said: In decoctions or pills for Yangmei Chuang and Jiedu, Hai Yingtao (Sea Cherry) must not be omitted. (Also known as Qiannian Ai, bears fruit in winter, abundant in rock crevices of Qixia Mountain, Nanjing.) Banzhilian (Scutellaria Barbata) must also not be omitted.
