(This is Fire Phlegm)
[Symptoms of Dryness-Phlegm] Fever, dry and cracked lips, irritability with thirst desiring drink, panting cough with shortness of breath, symptoms that come and go intermittently, and difficulty in expectorating phlegm. These are the symptoms of exogenous Dryness-Phlegm.
[Causes of Dryness-Phlegm] Due to hyperactive Yang exertion during labor, coinciding with the Fire season, where Dryness-Heat pathogenic factors invade the Lung organ, causing panting and cough; if damaging the Intestines and Stomach, then...
[Pulse of Dryness-Phlegm] The pulse must be Surging (Hong) and Rapid (Shu). A Floating-Rapid pulse indicates disease in the Exterior; a Deep-Rapid pulse indicates disease in the Interior. A Left Surging-Rapid pulse indicates Dryness damaging the Liver and Gallbladder; a Right Surging-Rapid pulse indicates Dryness damaging the Lungs and Stomach.
[Treatment of Dryness-Phlegm] It is appropriate to employ methods to Clear Heat and Moisten Dryness, Descend Fire and Resolve Phlegm. Formulas include Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction), Ermu Shigao Tang (Two Mother and Gypsum Decoction), and Ermu Erchen Tang (Two Mother and Two Old Decoction).

[Symptoms of Dryness-Phlegm] Cough with wheezing and rebellious Qi. Rising Phlegm-Fire, intermittent coughing, inability to expel phlegm, continuous coughing without relief, red face, and rising Qi. This is endogenous...
[Causes of Dryness-Phlegm] Fire from the Five Emotions stirring internally, or excessive sexual activity leading to depletion of True Water; or accumulation of heat from rich and greasy foods fermenting in the Intestines and Stomach, steaming upwards to the Lungs, refining fluids into Phlegm, thus giving rise to Dryness-Phlegm symptoms.
[Pulse of Dryness-Phlegm] A Rapid and Large pulse at the Right Cun position indicates Heat in the Lungs; a Deep-Rapid pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Heat in the Intestines and Stomach; a Rapid pulse at the Left Guan position indicates Wood-Fire pathogenic factors; pulses at both Chi positions...
[Treatment of Dryness-Phlegm] Nourish Yin and strengthen Water, Moisten the Lungs and generate fluids, so that Fire extinguishes, Dryness removes, and Phlegm does not form; if using drying agents to eliminate Phlegm, disaster will follow immediately. For depletion of True Water, use Erdong Ermu Tang (Two Winter and Two Mother Decoction); for accumulation of heat from rich and greasy foods, use Jiezhai Huatan Wan (Jiezhai Phlegm-Resolving Pill).
