[Symptoms of Damp-Heat Flaccidity] The body feels heavy and lethargic, with pain that migrates; the head feels as if wrapped in cloth; the face is puffy and swollen; urine is yellow and reddish; hands and feet feel hot; tendons are contracted.

[Etiology of Damp-Heat Flaccidity] Damp-heat pathogens from the seasonal climate invade the body, compounded by internal accumulation of damp-heat due to excessive consumption of rich and sweet foods; or damp-heat pathogens penetrate the skin and transmit into the meridians and collaterals, where dampness... (original text truncated here).

[Pulse Signs of Damp-Heat Flaccidity] The pulse is floating and soggy (Ru), while deep palpation reveals a rapid (Shu) quality. A soggy pulse indicates dampness; a rapid pulse indicates heat. A floating-soggy pulse suggests the pathogen is at the exterior level; a deep-rapid pulse suggests the pathogen is at the interior level. If both superficial and deep pulses are rapid, it indicates heat present in both the exterior and interior.

[Treatment of Damp-Heat Flaccidity] If the pulse is floating and rapid, indicating damp-heat at the exterior, use Baidu San (Decoction for Overcoming Toxicity) or Taiyang Ermiao Wan (Sun-Two Marvels Pill). If the pulse is deep and rapid, indicating accumulated heat within, use Chuanlian Zhike Tang (Coptis and Aurantium Decoction) or Yangming Ermiao Wan (Yang-Ming Two Marvels Pill). If symptoms manifest in both the exterior and interior, add Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) to these formulas.

Qianghuo Baidu San (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix Decoction for Overcoming Toxicity)

Taiyang Ermiao Wan (Sun-Two Marvels Pill)
Ingredients: Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix).

Yangming Ermiao Wan (Yang-Ming Two Marvels Pill)

For cases with damp-heat at the exterior, combine with Jingfang Ermiao Wan.

[Symptoms of Dry-Heat Flaccidity] Dry mouth and cracked lips; dry and peeling skin and hair; flaccid weakness of hands and feet, inability to move. This constitutes the syndrome of Dry-Heat Flaccidity.

[Etiology of Dry-Heat Flaccidity] During the scorching heat of summer, dry-fire dominates; or during the autumn season when dryness prevails, dry air scorches the body. Yin-blood fails to nourish the Zongjin (major tendons), leading to the onset of flaccidity.

[Pulse Signs of Dry-Heat Flaccidity] The pulse is surging (Hong), large, and rapid (Shu), indicating the presence of dry-fire. A right-hand surging-rapid pulse indicates dryness injuring the Qi aspect; a left-hand surging-rapid pulse indicates dryness injuring the Blood aspect.

[Treatment of Dry-Heat Flaccidity] For dry-fire injuring Qi, characterized by a right-hand surging-rapid pulse, use Zhimu Shigao Tang (Anemarrhenae and Gypsum Decoction) combined with Liangge San (Cooling the Diaphragm Powder). For dryness injuring Yin-blood, characterized by a left-hand surging-rapid pulse, use Zizao Yangrong Tang (Moistening Dryness and Nourishing Vitality Decoction).
