Vomiting damages Qi, and diarrhea damages Blood; these are critical conditions during pregnancy. Immediate treatment is required.
Severe cramping pain in the heart and abdomen, with simultaneous vomiting and dysentery. This arises because flavors accumulate to form phlegm, emotional depression generates fire, sudden exposure to cold or heat causes an struggle between pathogenic factors and healthy Qi, and Yin and Yang become confused, thus causing this disease. Use Xiangsu San (Perilla and Cyperus Powder) added with Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb). (Formula 18.) or Huisheng San (Life-Returning Powder). (Formula 19.)
Mental restlessness and abdominal pain, with simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea. Use Liuhe Tang (Six-Harmony Decoction). (Formula 20.)
Headache and fever. This is due to Wind pathogen. Use Huoxiang Zhengqi San (Patchouli Powder for Rectifying the Qi). (Formula 20.)
Heat qi stagnation and knotting, with irritability and restlessness in the chest. Use Genlu Gen (Reed Rhizome), Zhuru (Bamboo Shavings), Gegen (Kudzu Root), Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Renshen (Ginseng Root), and Congbai (Scallion White).
Cold extremities and reversal, with weak pulse and breath. Use Renshen Baizhu San (Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder). (Formula 21.)
If Spleen and Stomach transport and transformation stagnate, water and grain cannot transform into Essence and Qi to nourish the fetus. Proper digestive and guiding treatment should be employed.
Abdominal pain with undigested food. Use Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) added with Sharen (Amomum Fruit), removing Banxia (Pinellia Tuber); if vomiting occurs, add Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb) and Sharen (Amomum Fruit); if Qi stagnation exists, add Muxiang (Aucklandia Root). (Formula 8.)
Acid regurgitation and belching of putrid food. Use Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) removing Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), added with Zuojin Wan (Left Metal Pill). (Formula 8, Cold Syndrome 14.)
Abdominal fullness and diarrhea. Use Yigong San (Yi-Gong Powder) added with Sharen (Amomum Fruit), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), and Guya (Sprouted Millet). (Tonification 22.)
Spleen Qi deficiency. Grind Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and Chenpi (Tangerine Peel) into powder, taken with Guya Tang (Sprouted Millet Decoction).
The fetus in the uterus holds a nodule on the umbilical cord in its mouth. Due to the pregnant woman raising her arms and climbing high, the cord slips out of the mouth and cannot re-enter, causing crying sounds. Instruct the pregnant woman to bend her waist to the ground, as if picking up an object, so that the umbilical cord re-enters the infant's mouth, which will stop the crying. Alternatively, use soil from a rat burrow ground into powder, mixed with Shexiang (Musk), taken with wine, two qian per dose.
Miscarriage is common in the third, fifth, and seventh months. The third month belongs to the Pericardium Meridian, the fifth to the Spleen, and the seventh to the Lung. These all belong to Zang organs, which are Yin. Yin Qi is prone to deficiency, so the fetus is also prone to miscarriage; people generally guard against this. However, in the first month, it is called "Pei" (embryo), shaped like a dewdrop, the fetal root is not yet solid, and it is nourished by the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Liver Qi is prone to stagnation, and Liver Fire is prone to movement. If one does not exercise caution, the fetus may dissipate and fall. All anger and fatigue must be guarded against. Sexual intercourse is strictly contraindicated.
Deficiency of Qi in the Chong and Ren vessels. One should nourish the Spleen and Stomach. Use Qianjin Baotai Wan (Thousand Gold Fetus-Securing Pill). (Tonification 35.) or Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) added with Duzhong (Eucommia Bark), Chuanduan (Dipsacus Root), Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin), and Bei Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry). Strengthen Kidney Qi to secure the fetus. Use Shisheng San (Ten-Sage Powder). (Tonification 34.) Take six doses monthly.
The uterus is invaded by Wind-Cold, leading to weakness of Ying and Wei Qi. Use Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) added Sangjisheng (Taxillus Branch) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root). (Tonification 5.)
Hyperactivity of Shaoyang Ministerial Fire. Those with irritable temper often get angry, have dark complexion and excess Qi. This indicates excessive Ministerial Fire, which cannot generate Qi to transform into fetus; combined with dietary damage to Essence, this leads to miscarriage. Use Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction) added Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Huangbo (Phellodendron Bark), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), and Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber). (Tonification 7.)
Yin deficiency with internal heat. Use Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin), Shengdi (Rehmannia Root), Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), and Baishao (White Peony Root).
