Bingyi (a type of internal cataract where the pupil appears white and ice-like) presents with a pupil color bright as ice; its appearance remains unchanged whether viewed in dim light or sunlight. A faint whiteness is visible within the eye, caused by the combined pathogenic attack of Lung Wind and Liver Heat. Although acupuncture on the Du Meridian is indicated for this condition, excessive bleeding may反而 damage the eye. The treatment involves Huanjing Wan (Restore Vision Pill), containing Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen), Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), and Chong Wei Zi (Leonuri Fructus).
[Note] Bingyi internal cataract is characterized by a firm pupil that is white and bright like ice. Whether observed in shade or daylight, there is no difference in appearance, unlike Yuanyi (Round Cataract) which varies with light intensity. The faint whiteness emerging from within the eye indicates that Liver Heat and Lung Wind are combining to attack upward into the eyes. Acupuncture at specific acupoints should be performed to induce bleeding for cure. However, excessive bleeding from the Du Meridian should be avoided, as it may worsen visual dimness. Internally, Huanjing Wan (Restore Vision Pill) should be used to clear heat and tonify deficiency. (The acupoint Shangxing is located one cun above the hairline, directly above the nose, in the depression.)
Formula for Bingyi Huanjing Wan:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus, 0.5 liang), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 2 liang), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 2 liang), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 liang), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen, 2 liang), Hei Shen (Polygonati Rhizoma, 1 liang), Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix, 2 liang), Chong Wei Zi (Leonuri Fructus, 2 liang).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of tung seeds. Take 3 qian with tea infusion on an empty stomach.
Huayi (a type of internal cataract resembling a mercury bead) resembles a bead of quicksilver, slightly yellowish, obscuring the pupil. It is caused by Liver Wind rushing upward and brain fluid descending, leading to gradual dimness without itching or pain. Treatment requires Bogan Tang (Tonify Liver Decoction), containing Fu Ling (Poria), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Chong Wei Zi (Leonuri Fructus), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Hei Shen (Polygonati Rhizoma), Dang Gui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma). If there is excess heat, Jueming Wan (Bright Eye Pill) can be used to drain downward.
[Note] Huayi internal cataract presents as a single spot in the center of the pupil resembling a mercury bead, slightly yellowish, without itching or pain, and without tears, gradually obscuring the pupil and causing progressive blindness. Eventually, both eyes may be affected. This condition results from Liver Wind rushing upward and brain fluid flowing downward. Bogan Tang (Tonify Liver Decoction) should be used to clear and disperse deficient heat. If excess real heat persists, Jueming Wan (Bright Eye Pill) should be used to drain downward.
Formula for Huayi Bogan Tang:
Fu Ling (Poria, 1 qian), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 qian), Chong Wei Zi (Leonuri Fructus, 2 qian), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 qian), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 2 qian), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 1 qian), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Hei Shen (Polygonati Rhizoma, 1 qian), Dang Gui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 qian), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian).
Grind all ingredients into coarse powder. Decoct with two cups of water until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
Formula for Huayi Jueming Wan:
Shi Jue Ming (Haliotidis Concha, 1 liang), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen, 1 liang), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus, 0.5 liang), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Fu Ling (Poria, 1 liang), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Chong Wei Zi (Leonuri Fructus, 1 liang), Hei Shen (Polygonati Rhizoma, 1 liang), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 1 liang), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of tung seeds. Take 3 qian with tea infusion before meals.
