Shayi (Corneal Opacity with Dryness) presents with a slightly red color resembling congealed fat. The pupil (Tongshen) is correctly positioned, but vision gradually diminishes. There is intermittent dull pain and dryness without tear production. The opacity has no fixed shape, sometimes aggregating and sometimes dispersing. Treatment may employ Huanjing San (Clear Vision Powder), which contains Qianqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Xicha (Fine Tea), and Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus). Alternatively, Qibao Wan (Seven-Treasure Pill) may be used in conjunction with Shijue (Haliotidis Concha), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), and Xiongdan (Ursi Bile).
[Note] In the syndrome of Shayi, the interior of the pupil appears slightly red, with a color like congealed fat. The pupil remains centered, but vision becomes progressively dim and blurred. Intermittent dryness and pain occur without lacrimation. The opacity lacks a fixed form, varying between aggregation and dispersion. It is appropriate to first administer Huanjing San, followed by Qibao Wan taken internally to resolve the opacity.
Formula for Huanjing San for Shayi:
Qianqianzi (1.5 qian), Fangfeng (1 qian), Jiegeng (1 qian), Xuanshen (1 qian), Wuweizi (0.5 qian), Zhimu (2 qian), Huangqin (1 qian), Xicha (2.5 qian), Chongweizi (1 qian).
Grind these into coarse powder. Decoct two cups of water until reduced to one cup. Strain and take warm after meals.
Formula for Qibao Wan for Shayi:
Zhenzhu (Pearl, 5 qian), Hupo (Amber, 2 liang), Shijueming (Haliotidis Concha, 2 liang), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 fen), Chongweizi (1 liang), Renshen (1 liang), Xiongdan (Ursi Bile, 1 liang).
Grind into fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 1 qian before meals, washed down with clear tea infusion.
Fuyi (Superficial Corneal Opacity) appears white, reflecting within the pupil. It looks small in bright light and wide in dim light. It is neither itchy nor painful, and lacks bloodiness. This condition arises from Brain Wind pathogenic factors invading, causing dysfunction of brain lipids. Treatment involves Jieming San or Zhuibi Wan, containing Shijueming (Haliotidis Concha), Shijuehu (Concha Meretricis), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus), and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix). Alternatively, Zhuibi Wan may be used, containing Shijueming (Haliotidis Concha), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), and Tugan (Leporis Hepat).
[Note] In the syndrome of Fuyi Neizhang (Cataract-like Obstruction), initially there is no itching or pain. A white reflection emerges from within the pupil. In dim light, the opacity appears broad; in bright light, it appears slightly smaller. There is absolutely no mixing of blood color. This is caused by Brain Wind pathogens invading the eye, leading to the downward flow of brain lipids, resulting in internal obstruction. It is suitable to administer Jieming San and Zhuibi Wan.
Formula for Shijueming San:
Shijuehu (1 qian), Renshen (1 qian), Fuling (1 qian), Cheqianzi (1 qian), Xixin (0.5 qian), Fangfeng (2 qian), Dahuang (1 qian), Chongweizi (2 qian), Jiegeng (1.5 qian).
Grind into fine powder and mix evenly. Take 2 qian after meals, mixed with rice water decoction.
Formula for Zhuibi Wan for Fuyi:
Shijueming (1 liang), Zhimu (1 liang), Xixin (5 qian), Wuweizi (0.5 liang), Shengdihuang (2 liang), Renshen (2.5 liang), Fangfeng (1 liang), Tugan (one liver).
Grind into fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 3 qian on an empty stomach, washed down with clear tea infusion.
