Deep nebula (Shen Yi) appears as a white opacity hidden within the cornea (Hei Jing), caused by liver exhaustion generating heat and hot qi from the brain descending to attack the pupil. It is only visible upon close inspection in sunlight, with pain that is lighter during the day and heavier at night.
Lingyangjiao Yin Decoction:
Contains Qianqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Lingyangjiao (Antelope Horn), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Heishen (Ginseng Radix Rubra), and Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus).
Zaojiao Wan Pill:
Contains Shetui (Crotali Periostracum), Chantui (Bombyx Disparis Periostracum), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix), Yuanjingshi (Natrii Sulfas), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria), Muzei (Equiseti Herba), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Zhu Zhaopi (Porci Cutis Corium), Chanshanjia (Manis Squama), and Gujingcao (Eriocauli Flos).
[Note] Deep nebula belongs to internal cataracts; the white opacity is concealed within the cornea. It can only be seen when carefully examined under sunlight. The pain symptom presents as lighter during the day and heavier at night. This is due to labor-heat in the Liver Meridian and hot qi from the brain flowing downward. It is appropriate to treat with Lingyangjiao Yin Zi and Zaojiao Wan.
Specific Dosage and Administration for Shen Yi Lingyangjiao Yin:
Qianqianzi (1 qian), Lingyangjiao (2 qian), Dahuang (1 qian), Fangfeng (2 qian), Huangqin (1 qian), Heishen (1 qian), Chongweizi (2 qian).
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Add two zhan of water, decoct until one zhan remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
Specific Formula and Preparation for Zaojiao Wan:
Shetui (7 strips), Chantui, Baizhu, Longdancao, Yuanjingshi, Danggui, Baijuhua (each 0.5 liang), Chuanxiong (0.5 liang), Renshen (1 liang), Fuling (1.5 liang), Muzei (1.5 liang), Lianqiao (1.5 liang), Chishao (1.5 liang), Zhu Zhao (20 pieces), Cipi, Chanshanjia, Gujingcao (each 1.5 liang).
Grind all herbs into fine powder. Take half of the powder, add twelve stalks of Yazao, burn until the medicinal nature is preserved (cun xing), mix evenly, and form pills using refined white honey, sized like tung tree seeds. Take 1.5 qian per dose, administered on an empty stomach with Apricot Kernel Decoction. For the other half of the powder, add Xianlingpi (1 liang), take 3 qian per dose. Use three slices of pig liver, split open to sandwich the medicine, cook thoroughly, chew finely before bedtime, and swallow with the original broth.
Horizontal nebula (Heng Yi) horizontally obstructs the center of the pupil, shaped like the ridge of a sword, white as silver. It is caused by internal deficiency with wind-heat attacking the brain, and stomach heat combined with liver pathogenic factors leading to blurred vision.
Huanjing Jueming Formula:
Contains Qianqianzi, Dihuang, Huangqin, Fangfeng, Xixin, Wuweizi, Heishen, Renshen.
Qibao San Powder:
Contains Qianqianzi, Huhuanglian, Dansha, Shijueming, Gancao, Xijiao, Lingyangjiao.
[Note] Horizontal nebula is also known as Sword Ridge Nebula. It emerges from the pupil, resembling the ridge of a sword, higher in the middle and thinner at the edges, horizontally obstructing the center of the pupil, white as silver. This results from internal deficiency, liver pathogenic factors, and stomach heat rushing upward to the brain, causing brain fat to flow downward into the eye, forming an internal cataract. It is appropriate to administer Huanjing Wan and Qibao San.
Specific Formula and Administration for Heng Yi Huanjing Wan:
Shijueming (1 liang), Qianqianzi (1 liang), Shengdihuang (2 liang), Huangqin (1 liang), Fangfeng (2 liang), Xixin (5 qian), Wuweizi (0.5 liang), Heishen (1 liang), Renshen (1 liang).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, form pills with refined honey, sized like tung tree seeds. Take 3 qian on an empty stomach, washed down with clear tea.
Specific Formula and Administration for Qibao San:
Qianqianzi, Huhuanglian, Dansha, Shijueming, Gancao (each 5 fen), Xijiao (1 qian), Lingyangjiao (1 qian).
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Add two zhan of water, decoct until one zhan remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
