[Wei Ji Wan] Take Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove the rootlets), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, remove the stalks and stir-fry), and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) in equal proportions. Grind into fine powder, use steamed cake paste as a binder to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Each time, take 20 pills on an empty stomach with thick rice gruel, three times a day. This formula treats persistent diarrhea due to dampness invading the Spleen and Stomach, stabbing pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, and undigested food in stool; it is also used for dysentery caused by infantile malnutrition (Gan Qi).

[Xiao Zhu Che Wan] Take Chuan Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove hairs) 2 liang and Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) 2 liang (soak in Wuzhuyu decoction), stir-fry together until fragrant, pick out, and grind separately into fine powder. Mix with millet rice to form pills the size of sesame seeds, store separately. For red dysentery, take 10 pills of Huanglian Wan with Licorice Root Decoction; for white dysentery, take 10 pills of Wuzhuyu Wan with Ginger Decoction; for mixed red and white dysentery, take 15 pills of each with rice water. This is an effective folk prescription from western Zhejiang.

[Modified Formula 1] Take Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 6 liang and Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) 1 liang, stir-fry together, grind into powder, mix with Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30-40 pills each time with plain boiled water. Xue Lizhai advocated using Baizhu Chenpi Tang (Atractylodes Macrocephala and Tangerine Peel Decoction) for administration. It treats stabbing pain in the hypochondrium due to Liver Fire, or symptoms accompanied by alternating chills and fever, headache and eye pain, diarrhea, stranguria, and urinary retention—all syndromes related to the Liver—and is effective.

[Modified Formula 2] Take Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 3 liang and Fuling (Poria) 2 liang, grind into powder; separately take Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin) 1 liang, stir-fry until charred and grind into powder. Dissolve Ejiao in water, mix with the herbal powder to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills each time before meals with rice drink. This formula treats abdominal distension, dysentery with red and white discharge resembling fish brains, tenesmus, abdominal pain, dry mouth, thirst, and constipation due to deficiency of Stomach Qi and imbalance of cold and heat.

[Modified Formula 3] Take Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 30 liang, Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum) 10 liang, and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, remove the crown) 15 liang, grind into fine powder. Separately take Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin) 15 liang, stir-fry until bead-like, grind into powder, boil into a paste, and mix with the herbal powder to form pills. Take 30 pills each time before meals with water. This formula treats abdominal pain with dysentery, regardless of whether the condition is new or old, cold or hot, presenting with pus and blood in stool, occurring day and night without limit.

[Attached Formula: Ganjiang Huangqin Huanglian Renshen Tang] Use Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum), and Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) to treat Taiyang disease where there was originally cold-type diarrhea, but the physician erroneously applied vomiting or purging methods, resulting in immediate vomiting upon eating.

[Modified Formula 4] Take Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, remove the crown) 2 liang, Hezi (Chebulae Fructus, stir-fried and pitted) 1 liang, Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum) and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove rootlets) each 3 liang, grind into powder. Separately take Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin) 1 liang 3 fen, decoct in water, mix with the herbal powder to form pills the size of millet grains. Take 20 pills each time with rice drink. This formula treats persistent diarrhea and bloody dysentery with reddish pain and tenesmus, loose bowels with frequent defecation, loss of appetite, and fatigue in children due to imbalance of cold and heat and irregular nursing.
