Use male rat feces (21 pieces), stir-fry until powdered. When the decoction is ready, add dried Puerariae Radix (2 liang), Gardeniae Fructus (14 pieces, split open), scallion white parts (cut into 1 sheng), and fermented soybean (8 he). Boil with water to obtain 1.7 sheng. Strain the dregs, add the rat feces powder, and divide into two warm doses. The interval between doses should be equivalent to walking for six or seven li. Mild sweating will occur, internal heat will dissipate, and urinary difficulty will resolve. This treats patients who suffer from headache recurring as in the initial illness after a febrile epidemic disease due to relapse from exertion.
Equal parts of scallion white parts, fresh ginger, salted fermented soybean, Puerariae Radix, Ophiopogonis Radix, and prepared Rehmanniae Radix are used. Take one shao of water, stir vigorously countless times; this is called "Lao Shui" (Agitated Water), used to decoct the aforementioned herbs. Divide the dregs into two doses. Cover the head to induce sweating. Xu Renze stated: Taiyang cold damage may result from Qi exhaustion, physical exertion, or dietary indiscretion; this formula governs such cases. When the illness arises like that caused by strenuous labor, it is termed "Li Lao" (Physical Exertion Fatigue).
Use Polygonati Rhizoma (5 liang), scallion white parts (1 sheng), fermented soybean (1 sheng), glutinous rice wrapped in silk (3 he, ground), and male rat feces (7 pieces, powdered). Add 7 sheng of water, first decoct the first three ingredients to obtain 4 sheng of juice. Strain the dregs, add the glutinous rice powder, and boil until the rice is cooked. Add the rat feces powder, stir well, and take all at once. Cover with blankets and rest to induce sweating. If symptoms persist after recovery from an epidemic disease, use this formula. It treats relapse from exertion following an epidemic disease.
Use scallion white parts with roots (0.5 jin) and fresh ginger (2 liang). Decoct with 2 sheng of water to obtain 1 sheng. Strain the dregs and divide into two or three doses. This treats Taiyang cold damage where sweating has not ceased, presenting with symptoms resembling broken skin or tetanus-like spasms. If there is no improvement, use the subsequent Gegen Scallion White Decoction.
Use scallion white parts (10 stems) and fresh ginger (3 slices). Decoct with 3 sheng of water to obtain 1 sheng. Divide into three doses. Induce sweating as the endpoint. This treats Taiyang cold damage during pregnancy.
This is Jiang Cong Tang (Ginger-Scallion Decoction) plus Puerariae Radix, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, and Anemarrhenae Rhizoma. Decoct with 3 sheng of water to obtain 1 sheng. Strain the dregs and divide into two doses. See the entry for Lianxu Congbai Tang (Scallion White with Roots Decoction) for details.
This is Cong Chi Tang (Scallion-Fermented Soybean Decoction) plus Ephedrae Herba and Puerariae Radix. Boil Ephedrae Herba in water, skim off the foam, then add Puerariae Radix and boil for twenty boils. Next, add fermented soybean, then scallion white parts. Finish decoction. Administer with scallion and vinegar congee, cover with clothing to induce sweating. This treats Taiyang cold damage occurring on the second or third day, characterized by pain in the head, neck, waist, and spine, aversion to cold, and a floating and tight pulse. Dosages should be adjusted according to symptoms.
Use Zhi Shi (3 pieces, roasted), Gardeniae Fructus (14 pieces, split open), scallion white parts (cut into 1 sheng), Xiang Chi (fermented soybean, 0.5 sheng), and rat feces (14 pieces). Decoct with 1 sheng of water to obtain 1.5 sheng. Divide into three warm doses. The interval between doses should be equivalent to walking for six or seven li. Take another dose if necessary. This treats internal stagnation and difficulty in urination, specifically for patients suffering from relapse from exertion after several days.
