Long Gu (Fossilized Bone): Bitter, warm. It governs Wu Long (five types of urinary retention), Guan Ge (obstruction of both urination and defecation), and promotes the flow of urine through the water passages. It treats epilepsy in children and mania in adults. Its nature is agile, seemingly capable of returning to divine transformation.
Long Gu is the essence of the Sea of Marrow, akin to the dignified bearing of an adult male. Combed a thousand times yet remaining clean, cut into a single strand yet retaining value. It stands solemn like a brooding hen, yet divinely drives away flying birds. The remainder appears respectful like young servants, piling up like clouds adorning the dawn.
The Commentary on *Suwen* states: "The brain is the sea of marrow; hair is the floral manifestation of the brain." Lei Xiao's *Paozhi Lun* states: "Hair refers to that which is cut from the crown of the head after a man reaches twenty years of age, provided there are no diseases affecting the area." *Huainanzi* states: "Conduct is the仪表 (standard/bearing)." Su Shi's poem reads: "A thousand combs through the hair, yet it remains clean." The *Book of Jin* biography mentions: "Cut and divided." The *Book of Tang* biography records: Consort Yang used a knife to cut off a lock of hair. Famous physicians state: When boiled with egg yolk, it dissolves into water. *Cantong Qi* mentions: The brooding hen uses its eggs. Chen Cangqi states: Hanging human hair on fruit trees prevents crows and other birds from eating the fruit. *Shijing*: "Disdainful." *Shizhuan*: "Adorned with respectfulness, made of braided hair." Xue Shilong's fu reads: "Hair piled like clouds, temples like cicada wings." Wen Tingyun's poem reads: "Too lazy to follow the makeup completed at dawn."
Long Chi (Dragon Teeth/Fossilized Teeth): Sweet, neutral. It governs heart and abdominal Gui Zhu (a type of infectious disease attributed to spirits), Jing Wu Lao Mei (ancient evil spirits). It treats coughing against the qi, diarrhea with pus and blood, leukorrhea or metrorrhagia in women, Zheng Jia Jian Jie (hard, fixed abdominal masses), and heat-induced convulsive epilepsy in children. It treats dental conditions. It governs convulsive epilepsy in children and adults, manic wandering, stagnation of qi below the heart, inability to breathe, and various spasmodic disorders. It kills spirit entities. Long-term consumption lightens the body, opens the spirit, and prolongs life. It grows in mountain valleys.
Its form remains in vast marshes, recalling the Auspicious Clouds. Standing unique, refined through molting bones, sharpening teeth for rinsing. Like horses in the market, resembling bodies burned. Its use is hidden yet its application is universal; within decay lies spiritual fragrance.
*Shiyi Ji* records: In the State of Nanxun, there were caves containing hairy dragons, which often shed bones in vast marshes. *Yishu* states: "When dragons roar, auspicious clouds emerge." Quan Deyu's preface: "Unique and magical, dispelling monsters." To the place of refining molting bones. *Book of Jin* biography: "Therefore rinsing stones, to sharpen the teeth." Li Zhen's poem: "Fragrant gums and white teeth resemble strings of shells." Huang Tingjian's poem: "Where is the bone bought for a thousand gold today? Scholars might not be worth five hides." *Zuo Zhuan*: "Elephants have teeth, which cause their own destruction." *I Ching*: "Hidden dragon, do not act." Also states: "Virtuous influence is universal." *Book of Jin* biography: "Glory added to decay." Feng Yan's fu: "Raising the spiritual fragrance of Qu Yuan."
