(Do not use if skin is broken) Honghua (Carthami Flos), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Taoren (Persicae Semen), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Guiwei (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix), Duohuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Dijiejie (Schizonepetae Herba), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Wujapi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), Lingxian (Synephores Herba), Zijingpi (Broussonetiae Cortex), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Fazhui (Ash of Human Hair, each 3 qian), Congjiangzhi (Juice of Ginger and Scallion, each 3 bowls), Huangzhan (Yellow Beeswax, 2 liang), Baicaoshuang (Soot from Hundred Herbs, 1 liang). Finely grind: Shexiang (Moschus), Moyao (Myrrha), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, each 3 qian). Mix into ointment and apply as a plaster.
(Usable if skin is broken) Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, each 1 liang), Bai Songxiang (White Pine Resin, 2 jin), Bai Cu (White Vinegar, 4 liang), Mayou (Sesame Oil, 10 liang), Bamiaojie (Castor Bean Nodes, 5 qian). First, use 7 liang of sesame oil, reserving 3 liang to adjust based on the consistency of the ointment; slice Dahuang, Bamiaojie, and four other ingredients, stir-fry briefly in a pot, then remove. Melt the pine resin, add the fried slices, and boil until thick. Filter through hemp cloth to remove dregs. The cloth should be six chi long and pulled by people. Pour the filtered oil into a vat of clean water, pull the ointment in the water into blocks, divide into three or four pieces, and gradually melt them back in the pot. The ointment will contain water vapor and expand significantly when melted; therefore, a large pot is essential. If the pot is too small, the fire too intense, or the ointment overflows, fan vigorously to calm it down. Do not sprinkle water, as it may cause injury. Continue until the oil turns red-yellow and melts completely, becoming clear as a mirror capable of reflecting faces. Test the consistency by dropping it into water; it should not stick to the skin when applied. If too hard, add oil; if too soft, add pine resin, adjusting until appropriate. Add sifted Baicaoshuang. When collecting the ointment, add fine powders: Tubiechong (Eupolyphaga seu Steleophaga), Haipiaoxiao (Sepiae Endoconcha, boiled seven times), Ercha (Katechu), Xuexie (Dracaenae Sanguis), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi, each 5 qian), Zhenzhu (Margarita, 1 qian), Xiangpi (Elephantiasis Skin, 5 fen), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha, each 1 qian).
