At the initial onset of this eye disease, it is generally caused by toxic wind invading the eyes, resulting in tearing. After wiping away the tears, they reappear. The condition occurs more frequently in winter and less in summer. However, after three to five years, tearing occurs regardless of the season.
This disease is attributed to the connection between the lacrimal passages and the Lung organ. Over time, it causes the eyes to become increasingly dim and difficult to distinguish colors. For such symptoms, it is advisable to administer Xixin Wan (Asarum Pill) and Nuangfei Tang (Lung-Warming Decoction). Additionally, apply heat cauterization to Jingming (BL1) acupoint using heated copper chopsticks, and instill Dian Dian Yan Zhilei San (Tear-Stop Powder for Eye Instillation) to achieve a cure.
The poem states:
Wind strikes causing tears and blood flow;
Every winter, the treatment does not cease.
The tilted lacrimal duct connects to the Lung;
Xixin pills and powders eradicate the root cause.
Realgar and Schisandra berry serve as wind-facing eye drops;
Heated copper tools cauterize the head [area].
Advise early medical treatment to avoid lifelong worry.
Xixin Wan (Asarum Pill)
Asari Radix et Rhizoma (2 liang), Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis (5 qian each with prepared Rehmanniae Radix, 1.5 liang each), Ginseng Radix, Poria, Cortex Lycii Radicis, Dioscoreae Rhizoma, Saposhnikoviae Radix (1 liang each).
Grind all ingredients into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills on an empty stomach with salted water, twice daily.
Nuangfei Tang (Lung-Warming Decoction)
Erythrostachys Semen, Asari Radix et Rhizoma, Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (1.5 liang each), Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (1.5 liang), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (1 liang each).
Grind into powder. Take 1 qian of powder per 1 cup of water, decoct until reduced to 0.5 cup. Strain and take warm after meals.
Dian Dian Yan Zhilei San (Tear-Stop Powder for Eye Instillation)
Realgar (5 qian), Azurite (1 liang), Borneolum Syntheticum, Alum Ash, Asari Radix et Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma Pulvis (equal parts).
Pulverize and sieve finely, like flour. Instill into the eyes at night for immediate effect.
At the initial onset of this eye disease, the white sclera suddenly swells and protrudes, completely covering the black cornea and pupil. There may be itching or pain, tearing, and difficulty opening the eyes. This is "Bao Feng Ke Re" (Sudden Wind Guest Heat). The pathogen lingers in the Lung, rushing upward to invade the Liver and Diaphragm, causing internal ocular swelling, redness of the sclera, and inability to distinguish figures. For this condition, administer Xiefei Tang (Lung-Draining Decoction) and Bugan San (Liver-Nourishing Powder). Perform bloodletting with a lancet (Pi Lian), then apply Choufeng San (Wind-Extracting Powder) for recovery.
The poem states:
White sclera swells covering the black cornea;
Eyelid swelling brings itching and pain.
This is sudden wind combined with guest heat;
Invading the Lung, disturbing its peace.
Add wind-expelling drugs to the Lung-draining soup;
Pills and powders obtain clever names temporarily.
Bloodletting with the lancet must remove all stasis;
Wind-extracting ointment is cooked for the eye.
