[Black Wind Internal Cataract]
At the initial onset of this eye condition, the patient experiences dizziness (Xuanting), pain in the forehead and temporal regions, which radiates to the eyelid bones and nasal cheekbones, causing frequent pain. Concurrently, there is pain and dryness/astringency within the eyes, accompanied by the perception of black spots drifting across the visual field. The disease typically begins in one eye and subsequently affects the other, leading to bilateral impairment. This condition arises from Kidney deficiency and exhaustion due to excessive sexual activity, and is termed Black Wind Internal Cataract (Heifeng Neizhang). It is contraindicated for needle-penetration surgery (Zhenbo); instead, medicinal treatment and recuperation are indicated. Regarding acupuncture points and pulse diagnosis, it is appropriate to administer Lingyangjiao Yinzi or Bushen Wan, which yield immediate efficacy.
Poem:
The manifestations of Black Wind resemble those of Green Wind, yet the internal organ pathology follows a different trajectory. Black Wind originates from disorders of the Kidney; Green Wind stems from the attack of Metal on Wood (Lung affecting Liver).
To know which medicine can cure it, one must follow the principle of using Antelope Horn as the primary agent.
Proper recuperation eliminates red eyes; if astringency occurs, gentle care of the eyes is required.
Strictly avoid sexual exertion and anger; do not follow those who indulge in such excesses.
If the pupil dilates uncontrollably (resembling the three luminaries), even famous physicians will be helpless, meeting only in vain.
Lingyangjiao Yinzi (Antelope Horn Decoction)
Ingredients: Antelope Cornu (Lingyangjiao), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Panax Notoginseng Radix (Heishen), Asari Radix (Xixin), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu) (each 1 liang); Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi), Chuanxiong Herba (Chongweizi) (each 1.5 liang); Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take ten pills after meals, washed down with tea water.
Bushen Wan (Kidney-Nourishing Pill)
Ingredients: Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Poria (Fuling), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), Asari Radix (Xixin), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng) (each 1 liang); Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao), Biota Semen (Baiziren) (each 2.5 liang); Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Gan Dihuang) (1.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Pound and sieve the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take ten pills on an empty stomach, washed down with tea water.
[Green Wind Internal Cataract]
At the initial onset of this eye condition, there is slight pain and astringency, dizziness and headache. The patient may initially perceive floating spots or not, while the pupil remains normal in size and shape. Vision gradually dims. Symptoms may worsen and become more severe due to fatigue and overexertion. The patient should be advised to rest and recuperate, and medication must be administered promptly to prevent the formation of internal cataracts. Needle-penetration surgery is also contraindicated here. All these conditions result from deficiency and exhaustion of the Five Zang organs. It is appropriate to administer Lingyangjiao Tang or Huanjing San, which will lead to recovery.
Poem:
Initially, there are no symptoms of itching or pain; the name derives from one eye becoming dim first. The pupil appears normal as if unaffected; Green Wind is the underlying cause.
Early stages involve mild dizziness and stuffiness; sometimes visual spots appear, sometimes they do not. Suddenly, vision darkens due to fatigue and exhaustion; those knowledgeable should be startled.
Medication must be accompanied by proper recuperation; do not allow wind and fatigue to reignite. One must take Lingyangjiao Tang and Huanjing San; restoring vision and clearing opacities will naturally correspond.
Apply head massage ointment frequently to prevent the loss of clarity in both eyes. If patients ignorantly violate this method, they will later blame their past lives.
