When this eye disease first occurs, there is no prior foundation (no chronic basis), and it suddenly erupts. The pain is like being pierced by an awl, and the eyelid skin feels as if scorched by fire. This suffering is unbearable. One should initially seek treatment targeting divine influences (Shen Sui), Qi stagnation, and Wind pathogens, using herbal medicine to tonify and treat the Zang-Fu organs.
At this stage, hook cutting, cauterization, or acupuncture must not be used; otherwise, nebulae (corneal opacities) may develop. It is suitable to take Lingyangjiao Yinzi (Antelope Horn Decoction) and apply Qinpi Jian (Qin Bark Decoction) as eye drops for effective results.
Poem:
Suddenly arising without prior foundation,
Pain like needle pricks brings no peace.
Heat burns like fire approaching close,
Seeking remedies for Shen Sui Qi is not in vain.
Once pain subsides, decoctions are needed for cure,
Lest Wind-Heat pathogens link together again.
No need for cauterization or burning treatments,
Apply Qinpi prepared as powder and decoction.
Lingyangjiao Yinzi (Antelope Horn Decoction)
Ingredients: Antelope Cornu (Lingyang Jiao, 2 liang), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Poria (Fuling), Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Asparagi Radix (Tianmendong), Polygoni Multiflori Radix Preparata (Heishen), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi) (each 1 liang).
Preparation: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take one qian of powder with one cup of water, decoct until reduced to half a cup. Strain and take warm after meals.
Qinpi Jian (Qin Bark Decoction)
Ingredients: Fraxini Cortex (Qinpi), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Costi Radix (Muxiang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Polygoni Multiflori Radix Preparata (Heishen) (each 1 liang).
Preparation: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Soak one qian of powder in one cup of water for three nights. Strain, add four liang of honey, and decoct into a paste for external use.
When this eye disease first occurs, sudden pain arises. The onset is due to heat accumulation and toxicity stagnating within the Liver. Tonification and treatment are essential to prevent damage to the eyes. It is suitable to take Soufeng Tang (Wind-Searching Decoction) and Xiegan Yinzi (Liver-Purging Decoction); unblocking the intestines will yield immediate effects.
Poem:
Nebulae appear before the eyes,
The tip rises like a spiral shell.
Restoring vision to its former state is difficult,
Rooted deeply, what can be done?
Pain erupts from time to time,
Wind arrives and remains unconsumed.
Diligently take herbal decoctions,
Much can be achieved by unblocking the Liver.
If treatment seeks pills and powders to resolve,
Once pain settles, let it be.
If the therapy is inappropriate,
The eyeball may protrude high or sink into a depression.
