In the sixth month of pregnancy, the fetus begins to receive the essence of Metal, thereby forming its tendons. It is advisable for the mother to engage in mild physical activity and avoid excessive leisure or indulgence in desires. She should not consume meat from birds or beasts; this practice helps regulate the Couli (interstitial spaces) and strengthen the tendons, nourishing physical strength and fortifying the back and spine.
During this month, the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian nourishes the fetus, and acupuncture or moxibustion on this meridian is contraindicated. The Stomach opens into the mouth and eyes; at this stage, the fetus's mouth and eyes are fully formed. One should harmonize the five flavors in diet, consuming sweet and delicious foods, but avoiding overeating. If the fetal Qi becomes disharmonious during this month, resulting in sudden restlessness, fetal movement, abdominal pain, or distension and stuffiness, An Tai He Sheng Yin (Fetus-Anchoring Harmony-Victory Decoction) is indicated.

In the seventh month of pregnancy, the fetus begins to receive the essence of Wood, thereby forming its bones. The mother should exert herself physically and shake her limbs, avoiding excessive comfort or ease. Movements involving flexion and extension help circulate Blood and Qi. She should reside in dry places and avoid cold foods and drinks. Consuming rice and sorghum helps to consolidate the Couli; this is referred to as nourishing the bones and strengthening the teeth. During this month, the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian nourishes the fetus, and acupuncture or moxibustion on this meridian is contraindicated. The Lung governs the skin and hair; at this stage, the fetus's skin and hair are fully formed. The mother should avoid excessive talking or crying, bathing, wearing thin clothing, or drinking cold beverages. If the fetal Qi is unstable, leading to injury with bleeding, or if the abdomen feels heavy and sinking, Qing Tai Wan Quan Yin (Clear-Fetus Complete-Safety Decoction) is indicated.

In the eighth month of pregnancy, the fetus begins to receive the essence of Earth, thereby forming its skin. The mother should maintain a peaceful heart and rest quietly, avoiding extreme exhaustion of Qi; this helps consolidate the Couli and gives luster to the complexion. During this month, the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian nourishes the fetus, and acupuncture or moxibustion on this meridian is contraindicated. The Large Intestine governs the nine orifices; at this stage, the fetus's nine orifices are fully formed. She should avoid eating dry/hot-natured foods and avoid intense anger. If the fetal Qi is unstable, manifesting as rebellious Qi and wheezing/dyspnea, regardless of whether there is an external pathogenic invasion, He Tiao Diao Qi Yin (Harmonize-Fetus Regulate-Qi Decoction) is indicated.
