Arising on both sides of the throat. It belongs to the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) Meridian, Foot-Taiyin (Spleen) Meridian, and Foot-Jueyin (Liver) Meridian, caused by heat-fire accumulating toxic pathogens attacking upward. It is suitable to use Jiajian Baidu San (Modified Decoction for Overcoming Toxins) and Huanglian Xiaodu San (Coptis Decoction for Eliminating Toxins) (see Brain Abscess), or Huoming Yin (Decoction for Saving Life) added with Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma). If it ulcerates inward, the condition is critical.
This syndrome arises from excessive fire in the Heart and Liver meridians, with heat amidst deficiency, manifesting under the two hypochondriac regions, named "Fa Xie" (Flank Carbuncle), belonging to the Hand and Foot Jueyin Meridians. In the initial stage, Shenshou Gualou San (Miraculous Trichosanthes Powder), Chaihu Qinggan Tang (Bupleurum Clearing Liver Decoction), or Huoming Yin added with Chaihu are suitable. After ulceration, clearing heat, supporting the interior, and nourishing Kidney Water are indicated; if there is heat, Danggui Longhui Wan (Angelica Dragon Gallbladder Pill) is used. If red-purple discoloration extends from the hypochondrium to the waist and the whole body, Bian stone therapy should be used to bleed out evil blood, internally taking Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Releasing the Exterior and Unblocking the Interior Powder), externally applying Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Linctus) topically and orally. Simple prescription: Mash chicken manure, add a little salt, mix with vinegar, and apply to the affected area. Effective when swelling subsides, pain stops, and pus forms.
(Attached: Hand Back Carbuncle, Fork Stabbing, Finger Carbuncle, Heavenly Snake Head, Palm-Piercing Carbuncle, Wrist Abscess, Paronychia)
Carbuncles erupting on the dorsum of both hands, without heads and presenting as diffuse swelling, are caused by wind-heat stagnation in the Three Yang meridians. Huoming Yin added with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Jiegeng, and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) is suitable. Add Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) if cold is present, add Jianghuang (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma) if heat is present; decoct with water and wine. Alternatively, use Zijin Ding or Duoming Dan (Life-Seizing Pill). For the elderly and weak, major tonification is required.
Toxic accumulation and swelling inside the web between the thumb and index finger, also known as Hegu Ju (Metacarpal Carbuncle). It belongs to wind-heat accumulated toxins in the Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. Initially, garlic-separated moxibustion is suitable, internally taking Zhenren Huoming Yin (True Man's Decoction for Saving Life) added with Guizhi, Jianghuang, Jiegeng, and Shengma, decocted and taken orally. Externally, Yushu Dan (Jade Pivot Pill) ground in water is applied.
This syndrome manifests at the tip of the great toe (Note: Text says "Da Zhi Tou", literally Great Finger/Toe head, context implies digit, usually thumb or big toe, here translated as digit tip based on 'Zhi Fa'), also named "Zhi Fa" (Digit Eruption). Starting like millet grains, gradually enlarging, turning blue-purple, yellow, or black, with numbness and itching, or severe pain piercing the heart, it belongs to the Hand-Taiyin (Lung) Meridian. Externally apply thick layers of Yushu Dan; internally, employ sweating and purgative formulas; subsequently, support the interior and tonify, following all previous methods. Do not neglect or delay this syndrome. If vomiting attacks the heart, inability to eat, and bleeding from gum fissures occur, it is incurable. If the digit turns black, amputation is urgently required for survival. If the blackness spreads to the arm, death is certain. Other digits may be preserved. Baodu San (Detoxifying Powder): Mud wasp nests (from walls) and Ruxiang (Frankincense), ground into powder, mixed with rice vinegar, applied frequently until pain stops. Another prescription: Burn dried Wugong (Scolopendra) to smoke the area. Another prescription: Soak the digit in egg white until pain stops.
