The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: The ear is the external manifestation of the Kidney. It also states: The Kidney opens into the ear orifice. Furthermore, excessive anger can disturb the Jueyin Liver Meridian, causing wind-heat, dryness, and fire to arise internally, leading to sores on the auricle, accompanied by heat, pain, and itching. Treatment may involve Chaihu Qinggan San (Bupleurum Liver-Clearing Powder) combined with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), followed by Jiawei Dihuang Wan (Modified Rehmannia Pill). Toxic sores within the ear are generally caused by wind-heat in the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian.
There are five types of ear disorders: one is Duer (Ear Myiasis/Insect-like erosion); two is Shi'er (Damp Ear), characterized by frequent discharge of yellow purulent fluid; three is Feng'er (Wind Ear), characterized by frequent discharge of red pus; four is Chan'er (Coiling Ear), characterized by discharge of white pus; five is Ergan (Ear Fungus/Gangrene), where sores develop with a foul odor; six is Zhen'er (Vibrating Ear), characterized by empty ringing in the ear and occasional discharge of clear fluid. Although the syndromes vary, their root source is identical. Additionally, conditions such as Erxun (Ear Mushroom) and Erzhi (Ear Hemorrhoid) causing blockage are treated with Huanglian Xiaodu Yin (Coptis Detoxification Decoction) and Huoming Yin (Life-Saving Decoction). For cases termed Eiyong (Ear Abscess), Huoming Yin is used with added Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus). If the pain is severe, resembling a Ding (Carbuncle/Fixed Malignant Tumor), first apply juice from Jingsicao (俗名 Tianheyeye/Yanhongsi, commonly found growing beside stone walls), crushed and dripped into the ear. If treatment is delayed, massive head swelling will occur, leading to death.
Main Formula (If a Ju (Deep-seated Abscess) appears one inch and three fen behind the ear, urgently administer detoxifying medicines; delay renders it incurable.) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix). The above herbs are coarsely chopped, decocted in water, and taken after meals.
(Attachment: Mian Sai - Facial Cheek Sores)
Facial sores appearing on the eyebrows, chin, cheeks, face, nose, mustache area, and mandibular angle all belong to stagnant fire in the Upper Jiao, accumulated heat in various meridians, and obstruction by wind-dampness, resulting from the stagnation of Yin and Yang qi. Formulas similar to Wanbing Jiedu Dan (Ten Thousand Diseases Detoxification Pill) are suitable. If there is swelling, redness, and pain, first administer Jiabai Bidu San (Modified Defeating Toxin Powder) to induce sweating, then use Zhenren Huoming Yin (True Person Life-Saving Decoction) with added Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis).
Main Formula: Treats swelling, pain, and tenderness of the lips, Jiache acupoint region, and hairline, as well as headache radiating from the nose and forehead.
Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu) [7 qian 5 fen], Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) [5 qian], Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) [2 qian 5 fen], Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) [3 qian 5 fen each], Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) [2 qian 5 fen each], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [1 qian 5 fen], Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) [3 qian]. Prepare as one dose, decoct in five cups of water until reduced to three cups, strain, and divide into three doses. Take one dose per day; when heat subsides, switch to a milder preparation.
