Belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Channel, which is the source of the Yin and Yang Qiao Vessels. It is caused by accumulated heat in the Zang-Fu organs. Toxic drugs should be avoided for external application; externally, garlic moxibustion is suitable, internally Huoming Yin (Life-Saving Decoction) with Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae), Niu Xi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi) can be taken, or Zijing Ding (Purple Gold Pellet) and similar preparations. For those with Yin deficiency, Yin-nourishing pills are taken as decoctions.
For women with swelling and pain in the heels and toes, heat in the soles, and suppuration at the swollen sites, Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) and Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) are appropriate; if there is internal heat, Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and similar formulas may be used.
External Application Formula: Grind Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) into fine powder. First wash the affected area with salt water, then sprinkle the powder on the dry skin, changing once a day. This is effective.
To treat sores on the calves that weep fluid and cause itching, wash with a decoction of Guanzhong (Cyrtomium Fortunii Rhizome), then apply a paste made from Baiyaojian (Galla Chinensis) powder mixed with saliva.
This refers to roughness and cracking of the skin on the hands and feet, causing pain and sensitivity to wind.
Ointment Formula: Qingxi (Asphaltum) (4 liang), Baise Huangla (White Beeswax) (8 qian), Ruxiang (Resina Olibani) (2 qian, separately ground into powder).
First boil Mahu You (Sesame Oil) (1 liang) in an iron vessel until cooked. Then add Qingxi, followed immediately by Huangla. Filter through hemp cloth into water, kneading until it turns yellow (incorporating the Ruxiang powder). Store in a porcelain container. When using, soften over a medicinal fire, apply, cover with paper, and the cracks will heal naturally.
Another Formula: For painful cracking of hands and feet, use Qingyou (Pure Sesame Oil) (5 qian). Boil slowly over low heat, add a piece of Huangla (Beeswax), continue boiling until melted. Add small amounts of Shui Fen (Lead Carbonate) and Wubei Fen (Galla Chinensis) powder. Boil until purple. Soften hands and feet in hot water, apply the medicine, cover with paper, and pain will cease.
Another: For damp rot between toes, use Kufan (Alumen Ustun) (3 qian) and Huangdan (Lithargyrum) (0.5 fen) ground into powder, sprinkled on the area.
Another: For itching and sores between fingers with unceasing bleeding, apply ash from the hoop of a bucket used for feces for many years.
Another: For cracked and rotting feet, apply a paste made from steamed lotus root.
Another: For foot cracks, grind Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) into powder and mix with Niu Guisui (Marrow of Ox) to fill the cracks; this leads to healing.
In winter, for cracked heels that bleed heavily, use Baiji (Rhizoma Bletillae) (choose bright, firm pieces, not dry ones), grind into fine powder, mix with water to form a paste. Wash the cracked area with hot water first, apply the medicine, cover with paper, wrap the foot, and it will heal overnight. Applying this in winter is highly beneficial.
General Discussion on Various Toxins Above:
When any kind of swelling and toxin first appears, characterized by redness, swelling, pain, and rapid elevation, it belongs to Yang syndromes and is easy to treat. If accompanied by aversion to cold and fever (Exterior syndrome), Jiajian Baidu San (Modified Detoxifying Powder) should be used to induce sweating and resolve the pathogen. If accompanied by irritability and thirst (Interior syndrome), Huanglian Neishu Tang (Coptis Interior-Purging Decoction) should be used to purge the bowels. If there are no Exterior or Interior symptoms but only severe pain, indicating the pathogen is in the channels and collaterals, Zhenren Huoming Yin (True Man's Life-Saving Decoction) should be used first to detoxify and relieve pain, followed by Tuoli Yingrong Tang (Supporting the Interior and Nourishing the Nutritive Qi Decoction) to harmonize the Zang-Fu organs. If there is mild redness and swelling, flat and sunken, it belongs to Yin channels and is difficult to treat. Urgently use Shixuan San (Ten-Acupoints Powder) or Tuoli San (Supporting the Interior Powder) and similar formulas to warm and tonify Yang. External treatments may include moxibustion, encircling applications, and washing, but acupuncture needles must not be used. Methods such as dispersing, lancing, supporting the interior, draining pus, generating flesh, and closing wounds are all adopted from the General Discussion. The treatment methods for various carbuncles, ulcers, and sores are largely similar. However, channel-guiding herbs should be added according to the specific condition: for lesions in the upper body, add ascending herbs; for those in the lower body, add descending herbs. After ulceration, warm and tonify Qi and Blood, adjusting for Cold, Heat, Deficiency, and Excess based on the syndrome, to achieve complete recovery.
