[The thumb] belongs to the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian (Ling Shu states: The meridian of Hand-Taiyin follows the thenar eminence and emerges at the tip of the thumb. It also states: The sinew of Hand-Taiyin originates from the upper part of the thumb. Furthermore: The Lung meridian issues from Shaoshang (LU-11). Shaoshang is located on the radial side of the tip of the thumb, belonging to Wood as the Jing-Well point). [The index finger, adjacent to the thumb] belongs to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian (i.e., the second finger, also known as the食指 Index Finger or 盐指 Salt Finger. Ling Shu states: The meridian of Hand-Yangming originates from the tip of the index finger. Diseases generated by this meridian include pain and dysfunction of the thumb and index finger. It also states: The sinew of Hand-Yangming originates from the tip of the index finger and knots above the wrist. Furthermore: The Large Intestine meridian issues from Shangyang (LI-1), which is located at the tip of the index finger, belonging to Metal as the Jing-Well point). [The middle finger] belongs to the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian (also known as the Jiangzhi General Finger. Ling Shu states: The meridian of Hand-Jueyin follows the middle finger and emerges at its tip. Its branch separates from the palm, follows the ring finger, and emerges at its tip. It also states: The sinew of the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium originates from the middle finger. Furthermore: The Heart meridian issues from Zhongchong (PC-9). Zhongchong is located at the tip of the middle finger, belonging to Wood as the Jing-Well point. Gu Yingbai stated: The Pericardium is also called the Heart Master, and since the Heart meridian issues from Zhongchong, it is undoubtedly that both the Hand-Jueyin and Hand-Shaoyin meridians are related to the Heart meridian. Since the branch of the Jueyin meridian follows the ring finger and emerges at its tip, it can be inferred that the Hand-Sanyang Sanjiao meridian is also related to the Heart meridian. Therefore, the Jing-Well points of these three fingers—Zhongchong, Guanchong, and Shaochong—are all named "Chong," symbolizing that fire has three flames. Readers should not play the lute with rigid tuning pegs, i.e., do not be dogmatic). [The ring finger, adjacent to the little finger] belongs to the Hand-Sanyang Sanjiao Meridian (i.e., the fourth finger, now commonly called the Ring Finger. Ling Shu states: The meridian of Hand-Sanyang originates from the tip of the ring finger. Diseases generated by this meridian include dysfunction of the ring finger. It also states: The Hand-Sanyang Sanjiao meridian issues from Guanchong (SJ-1), located at the tip of the ring finger). [The medial side of the little finger] belongs to the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian (The little finger is also known as the Jinzhi Forbidden Finger. Ling Shu states: The meridian of Hand-Shaoyin follows the medial side of the little finger and emerges at its tip. It also states: The sinew of Hand-Shaoyin originates from the medial side of the little finger). [The lateral side of the little finger] belongs to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian (Ling Shu states: The meridian of Hand-Taiyang originates from the tip of the little finger. It also states: The sinew of Hand-Taiyang originates from the top of the little finger. Furthermore: The Small Intestine meridian issues from Shaoze (SI-1). Shaoze is located at the tip of the little finger. Shen Chengzhi stated: The junction of red and white skin on the little finger belongs to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian).
