All things are born within the process of creation, relying on the accumulation of Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi) to gradually take form. A fetus in the womb also relies on the nourishment and growth of Qi and Blood to gradually form its body. Why do all living beings have a fundamental origin? Taiji is but one Qi. Taiji generates Liangyi (Two Polarities), Liangyi generates Sixiang (Four Images), and Sixiang generates Wuxing (Five Phases). When Wuxing are complete, all things are generated. Before Liangyi were differentiated, there was only Taiji. Taiji is like an egg; internally, Yin and Yang are chaotic. Upon differentiation, Heaven and Earth are separated: light and clear Qi becomes Heaven, while heavy and turbid Qi becomes Earth. Heaven manifests as the sun, moon, and stars; Earth establishes forms as mountains, rivers, soil, and stones. This is how Liangyi generates Sixiang. With Sixiang present, Wuxing become evident: One generates Water, which is entirely clear without dregs; Two generates Fire, which is scorching, turbid, and tends to solidify; Three generates Wood, which is half rigid and half flexible, forming its constitution; Four generates Metal, which is entirely rigid and has a firm constitution; Five generates Earth, which is heavy and dense, taking shape. Thus, Wuxing are complete. Once Wuxing are complete, Yin and Yang interact and combine to transform into all things. Humans are born from the upright Qi of Heaven and Earth. Having Yin and Yang, they are divided into male and female. Those who inherit the essence of Qian Dao (Heavenly Principle) are male, and those who inherit the essence of Kun Dao (Earthly Principle) are female. They gather the elegance of Wuxing and possess the completeness of Qi transformation. Therefore, the head is round symbolizing Heaven, the feet square symbolizing Earth, the two eyes symbolize the Sun and Moon, the four limbs symbolize the Four Seasons, the Zang Organs (Solid Organs) symbolize Wuxing, the Fu Organs (Hollow Organs) symbolize the Six Qi, respiration symbolizes Qi mechanism, waking and sleeping symbolize day and night, blood vessels symbolize rivers, hair symbolizes vegetation, and joints symbolize the degrees of the celestial sphere. Within the human body, nothing does not resemble Heaven and Earth; humans are the most spiritual among creatures. Above, they regulate calendars and clarify seasons; below, they divide provinces and demarcate territories; in the middle, they establish ethical codes and order. They assist where Heaven and Earth fall short and moderate where Heaven and Earth exceed, thereby participating in Heaven and Earth to become one of the Three Powers (San Cai). Animals that move as beasts inherit biased Yin and Yang, lying horizontally with four legs for walking. Animals that move as birds inherit abundant Yin and Yang, holding their heads up with wings for flight. Animals that move as aquatic life inherit extreme Yin and Yang, having no wings or feet, sinking into water. Plants originate from Earth; thus, roots enter the ground while branches and leaves face the sky. These are all the natural wonders of creation. Now speaking of human morphogenesis: The *I Ching* states, "When male and female couple their essence, all things are transformed." Essentially, when Essence and Blood converge, conception occurs. In the first month, the embryo is like dew; in the second, like peach blossoms; in the third, gender is distinguished; in the fourth, physical features are complete; in the fifth, bones and sinews form; in the sixth, hair grows. In the seventh month, the Hun Soul (Ethereal Soul) wanders, enabling movement of the left hand; in the eighth month, the Po Soul (Corporeal Soul) wanders, enabling movement of the right hand; in the ninth month, it turns three times; in the tenth month, it is fully developed and born. It is also said: The first month is the Bao (Womb/Cell), where Essence and Blood coagulate. The second month is the Tai (Fetus), where the form's embryo takes shape. In the third month, Yang Shen (Spirit) acts as the main Hun Soul, moving to generate life (The Three Hun Souls: 1. Shuangling, 2. Taiguang, 3. Youjing). In the fourth month, Yin Ling acts as the Seven Po Souls, stilling and stabilizing the form (The Seven Po Souls: 1. Shigou, 2. Fushi, 3. Queyin, 4. Tunzei, 5. Feidu, 6. Chuwei, 7. Choufei). In the fifth month, Wuxing are distributed among the Zang Organs to calm the Spirit. In the sixth month, Liulü (Six Pitch Pipes) determine the Fu Organs to nourish the Spirit. In the seventh month, Jingqi (Essence) opens the orifices to transmit brightness. In the eighth month, Bajing (Eight Scenes) deities are complete, descending true spirits. In the ninth month, palaces are arranged to stabilize Essence. In the tenth month, Qi is sufficient, and all phenomena are formed. Another view states: Regarding the sequence of Zang and Fu organ formation, if Yin envelops Yang, it is male, and the Left Kidney forms first; if Yang envelops Yin, it is female, and the Right Kidney forms first. Next, Kidney generates Spleen, Spleen generates Liver, Liver generates Lung, and Lung generates Heart, generating what it overcomes. Since Kidney belongs to Water, the five Zang Organs are thus defined as Yin. Next, Heart generates Small Intestine, Small Intestine generates Large Intestine, Large Intestine generates Gallbladder. Gallbladder generates Stomach, Stomach generates Bladder, and Bladder generates Sanjiao (Triple Burner), generating what overcomes it. Since Small Intestine belongs to Fire, the six Fu Organs are thus defined as Yang. Next, Sanjiao generates the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, Eight Extraordinary Vessels generate the Twelve Meridians, Twelve Meridians generate the Fifteen Collaterals. Fifteen Collaterals generate 180 Xi-Luo (Connecting Collaterals), which generate 180 Chan-Luo (Entwined Collaterals), which generate 34,000 Sun-Luo (Sun Collaterals), which generate 325 bone joints, which generate 325 major acupoints, which generate 84,000 hair pores. Thus, ears, eyes, mouth, nose, limbs, and the entire skeletal structure are complete. Furthermore, during pregnancy, each meridian nourishes the fetal origin monthly in a specific sequence. Month 1: Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian nourishes. Month 2: Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian nourishes. Month 3: Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian nourishes. Month 4: Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian nourishes. Month 5: Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian nourishes. Month 6: Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian nourishes. Month 7: Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian nourishes. Month 8: Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian nourishes. Month 9: Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian nourishes. Month 10: Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian nourishes. All Yin and Yang meridians nourish the fetus for thirty days each. Only the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian do not directly nourish, because the former governs menstruation and the latter transforms into breast milk. If a pregnant woman falls ill and the fetus is unstable, one must examine the abundance or deficiency of Qi and Blood according to the month of nourishment and adjust accordingly.
