When a person initially feels numbness and insensitivity in the thumb and index finger, or slight weakness in the hands and feet, with minor muscle twitching, there is a risk of stroke (Zhong Feng) within a few years. It is advisable to first take one dose each of Yufeng Tang (Wind-Dispelling Decoction), Tianma Wan (Gastrodia Pill), and Zhuli Zhizhu Wan (Bamboo Juice and Immature Bitter Orange Pill). This constitutes treatment before disease onset (Zhi Wei Bing).
Yufeng Tang (Take this when initial signs of wind pathogen movement are perceived to prevent sudden collapse. It also treats cases where internal pathogens of stroke have been cleared and external pathogens exhausted; taking this decoction helps guide the meridians. Long-term use eliminates severe wind pathogens. Even if minor pathogens remain, they can be treated by modifying the prescription.)

Each dose consists of one liang (approx. 30-50g depending on era/region context, here likely referring to total formula weight for multiple doses or specific preparation method described in source, literally "one liang" per serving implies a concentrated powder or specific unit in ancient text, but standard interpretation of "yi liang" in decoction context often refers to the total amount for the batch or a specific large dose; however, strictly translating "yi liang" as one liang): Add three slices of fresh ginger, decoct, and take on an empty stomach for ten doses. Gong Zicai said: "I have frequently tested the aforementioned prescriptions; some were effective, others not. The ineffective ones were mostly due to deficiency of Spleen and Lung, and weakness of Kidney Qi. It is only appropriate to simultaneously administer Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) and Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) to avoid the disaster of stroke."
Xu Yunshu said: "Xue Shi stated that for prevention, one should nourish qi and blood, regulate diet, restrain the Seven Emotions (joy, anger, worry, thought, grief, fear, fright), and avoid sexual indulgence."
