Constipation: Quacks may deem it appropriate to administer Rhubarb Decoction (Dahuang), but even after two doses, the bowels remain unopened. However, this condition cannot be saved merely by purgation. One should rapidly administer Jichuan Jian (Ji Chuan Decoction) with added Cistanche Herba (Roucongrong), Aurantium Fructus (Zhiqiao), and Achyranthes Radix (Niuxi) to relieve severe constipation. Additionally, add a small amount of Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 5-6 fen) alongside a larger dose of Rheum Palmatum Root and Rhizome (Dahuang, 7-8 qian). Within moments, dark feces will be expelled first, followed by the passage of stool, bringing relief. This is because Shengma lifts clear Yang upward, while Dahuang purges turbid Yin downward.
After the eruption of measles/rash, the patient presents with emaciation, tidal fever, and an appetite. Upon eating, they feel full quickly; after feeling full, hunger returns rapidly. They suffer from abdominal distension and pain, yet bowel and bladder movements are normal. There is foul breath and skin eruptions resembling sores. This results from the erroneous administration of Reheat-inducing Da Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill). If treated within a month, initially administer a large dose of Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) and Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin). Subsequently, administer two large doses of a formula containing Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shudihuang), Stemonae Radix (Baibu), Aurantium Fructus (Zhiqiao), Glehniae Radix (Shashen), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi), Asparagi Radix (Tiangdong), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), and Coicis Semen Germinatum (Guya). The condition will then resolve. Finally, administer Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill), removing Cornus Officinalis Fruit (Yurou), and adding equal parts of Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Ophiopogonis Radix (Mendong), and Glehniae Radix (Shashen) to complete the treatment.
Post-rash, fluid oozes over the entire body, accompanied by daily or nightly syncope (Jue). This is due to the ulceration of sores. After forty days, one may administer Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill), increasing the dosage of Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shudihuang), removing Cornus Officinalis Fruit (Yurou), and adding equal parts of Tribuli Fructus (Jili), Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (Danshen), Glehniae Radix (Shashen), Asparagi Radix (Tiandong), Ophiopogonis Radix (Mendong), Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba (Loulou), and Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen). Decoct and take orally to achieve recovery.
When the rash first begins to manifest with fever, avoid using Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong) and Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi), lest they clear the Lung and trap the pathogenic factor. If the pathogen fails to disperse, avoid using Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi), and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), lest tonifying Qi induce asthma. Avoid all heat-inducing herbs, lest they assist fire and damage the Lung. Strictly avoid chicken, fish, shrimp, and duck for forty-nine days; consumption will inevitably cause relapse. Excessive consumption of eggs causes whitening of the sclera in children; excessive sugar intake leads to noma (gangrenous stomatitis); acidic or alkaline substances harm the Lung. If diarrhea is excessive, administer Jiawei Siling San (Modified Four-Ling Powder). Strictly avoid astringents like Terminalia Chebula Fruit (Hezi) and Arecae Semen (Doukou), as well as tonics like Renshen and Baizhu. Even Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Shenggancao) should not be used excessively.
The emergence and disappearance of rashes require treatments that either lift or descend. For instance, with high fever and red cheeks, Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) may be taken directly. For facial toxicity with lethargy, Perillae Folium (Zisu) and Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Congtou) are suitable. With coarse breathing, heat congestion, irritability, and difficult urination, harmonization is required. For wheezing, coughing, closed eyes, and dry skin, urgent dispersal is needed. Before the rash appears, follow these principles. After the rash recedes, there are other unique formulas. If the rash does not fully emerge and toxic pathogens accumulate internally, one must understand the subtlety of internal and external dispersion. If the rash recedes rapidly with black-red, withered, and scorched appearance, cooling and detoxification are necessary. For asthma with abdominal distension, hoarseness, sore throat, anorexia, and obstruction of both bowels and bladder, with body heat burning like fire, detoxification and phlegm-resolving methods must be combined. These two principles constitute excellent guidelines for treating rashes; future practitioners must not treat recklessly.
