After childbirth, excessive blood loss leads to severe Qi deficiency, leaving Qi without support. Respiration becomes irregular, characterized by shortness of breath and wheezing, with speech unable to continue. This indicates extreme depletion of Blood and deficiency of Qi.
Immediately decoct Shenghua Tang (Transformation of Blood Decoction) for one or two doses, and add Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) 2-3 qian to save the emergency. Prepare a bottle of vinegar-soaked Chinese chive to prevent fainting. Do not hesitate to use Ren Shen due to fear that it might exacerbate wheezing; using too little or none will lead to untreatable conditions. Strictly prohibit the use of all Qi-descending herbs. If the deficiency is so severe that tonification cannot be tolerated, and vomiting occurs upon smelling food, indicating the exhaustion of Stomach Qi, this is an intractable condition.
Modified Shenghua Tang:
Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) (1 qian)
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (3 qian)
Jiang Tan (Charred Ginger Rhizome) (0.5 qian)
Tao Ren (Prunus Semen) (10 grains)
Ren Shen (Panax Ginseng Root) (3 qian)
Fu Ling (Poria) (1 qian, do not use if sweating is profuse)
Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (0.5 qian)
If sweating is profuse, add Huang Qi (Astragali Radix). If thirsty, add Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus). If Stomach Qi is weak, unable to eat, and vomiting occurs upon smelling medicine, or after consuming cold medicines/foods leading to vomiting and inability to retain grain, use Du Shen Tang (Single Ginseng Decoction) with Ren Shen 3-4 qian, Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger Rhizome) 3 slices, and Jing Mi (Oryza Sativa Grain) a pinch.
Xuqi Yangrong Tang (Decoction to Replenish Qi and Nourish Blood):
Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) (2 qian)
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (4 qian)
Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) and Pao Jiang (Roasted Ginger Rhizome) (0.5 qian each)
Ren Shen (Panax Ginseng Root) (2 qian)
Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) (1 qian)
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) and Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) (1 qian each)
Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) (1 qian)
Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.3 qian)
If feet are cold, add Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 0.3 qian. If sweating is profuse, add Mahuang Gen (Ephedrae Herba Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian and Fu Xiao Mai (Tritici Levis Fructus) a pinch. If thirsty, add Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus). If constipated, add Rong Zhong (Cynomorii Herba) and Ma Ren (Cannabis Fructus).
Within ten days postpartum, if exposed to Wind-Cold causing cough, nasal congestion, hoarseness, aversion to cold, accompanied by fever and headache, Jiashen Ningfei Tang (Ginseng Lung-Calming Decoction) is suitable. Do not use Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) to induce sweating.
If wheezing is accompanied by hypochondriac pain, do not use Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) to disperse pathogens. If suffering from Fire-cough with audible sound, scanty sputum, and red face, do not use cooling herbs to clear Fire. The primary treatment must focus on regulating Qi and Blood. If dry cough with sound but scanty sputum persists for half a month, Jiawei Siwu Tang (Modified Four Substances Decoction) can be used.
Jiashen Ningfei Tang:
Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) (1 qian)

Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (10 grains)
