Whenever a miscarriage (spontaneous abortion) occurs before the full term of pregnancy, it is due to deficiency of Qi and Blood, with all Zang-Fu organs being deficient. Compounded by illness transmission and emotional/sexual disturbances, this leads to chaotic attack of Essence and Blood, damaging Ying and Wei (Defensive and Nutritive Qi), leaving the fetus without nourishment, similar to a fruit falling from a withered branch. If the miscarriage has already occurred, treat with Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Generating New Tissue) modified. If vaginal bleeding and lower back pain occur before the miscarriage, immediately administer several doses of Shisheng San (Ten-Sage Powder) or Xiong Gui Bu Xue Tang (Corydalis & Angelica Decoction for Nourishing Blood).
Shisheng San (Ten-Sage Powder)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) [each 2 qian], Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [each 1 qian], Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) [0.5 qian], Chuan Duan (Dipsaci Radix) [0.7 qian], Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [0.5 qian], Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) [1 slice], Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus) [1 piece].
Take well after meals. Avoid anger, as well as raw/cold foods and all spicy/warm substances. Alternatively, add Gou Qi Zi (Lycii Fructus) 1.5 qian.
Xiong Gui Bu Xue Tang (Corydalis & Angelica Decoction for Nourishing Blood)
Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) [each equal amount of 1 qian], Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [0.8 qian], Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) [1 slice], Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus) [2 pieces].
Note: For this condition, Bao Tai Wu You San (Fetus-Protecting Worry-Free Powder) can also be used; listed under Lou Tai (Leaking Fetus/Prenatal Bleeding), take continuously for 7-8 doses, twice daily for better effect.
When a fetus cries in the womb near the end of pregnancy or at nine months, it is because the fetus holds the umbilical cord in its mouth while breathing along with the mother. If the pregnant woman raises her hands high to fetch something, she may pull the umbilical cord out of the fetus's mouth, causing crying. Simply instruct the mother to perform a gesture like a man bowing (clasping hands), which allows the umbilical cord to return to the fetus's mouth, stopping the crying. Alternatively, decoct concentrated Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) juice and let the mother sip it slowly.
When pregnancy is nearing full term, if the Bladder (Pao) is compressed by the fetal weight and displaced to one side, it causes urgent pain below the umbilicus and urinary retention. By lifting and supporting the fetus, the Bladder returns to its original position, and the water passages naturally open. It is suitable to use Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) combined with Si Wu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction), removing Fu Ling (Poria), adding Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and inducing vomiting to lift the Qi and raise the fetus. Do not exclusively use slippery/diuretic herbs. This condition also occurs postpartum; crush Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), spread it on the umbilicus, and moxa directly on it for immediate effect.
Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction)
Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, processed with Ginger) [2 qian], Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, pith removed) [1 qian], Fu Ling (Poria) [1 qian], Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [0.5 qian], Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) [1 qian], Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [1 qian].
Si Wu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction)
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [4 qian, washed with wine], Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) [2 qian], Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [1.5 qian], Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) [1.5 qian].
