In cases where, near the end of pregnancy, a woman suddenly experiences blurred vision to the point of not being able to see even by lamplight, accompanied by headache and swelling of the neck such that turning the head is impossible, this is caused by residing in warm environments (such as heated kang) with bedding that traps internal latent heat, or by taking excessive tonifying medicines and hot-natured foods. This leads to extreme fetal heat and liver qi stagnation, allowing wind-heat to attack upwards into the brain, resulting in these symptoms. One should urgently administer Tiandong Yinzi (Asparagus Root Decoction). It is strictly forbidden to consume alcohol, garlic, roasted foods, greasy foods, and all acrid-hot stimulant substances; otherwise, vision will not recover.
Tiandong Yinzi (Asparagus Root Decoction)

If the illness recedes, take one dose every other day; initially, take one dose daily.
In cases where a pregnant woman suffers from stabbing pain and fullness throughout the body, this is due to dysfunction of the five zang organs and deficiency emaciation of blood and qi. It may be triggered by consuming raw/cold foods or by fever with aversion to cold. Symptoms include pale lips, cyanotic complexion, spasm and contraction of sinews and vessels, soreness and pain of bone joints, dry and rough skin and hair, rapid breathing and asthma, constipation, and frequent vomiting. This is a critical condition. One should urgently administer Ping'an San (Peaceful Preservation Powder) to protect the fetus.
Ping'an San (Peaceful Preservation Powder)

In cases where a pregnant woman suffers from hematemesis or epistaxis, or loses blood due to trauma, and suddenly develops trismus (lockjaw) and rigidity of the neck and back, resembling stroke syndrome, Ji Jian An Tai Yin (Modified Fetus-Securing Decoction) is suitable. (Note: "Nü" refers to bleeding from the nose or injury by a blade.)

In cases where a pregnant woman presents with a red face, dry mouth, bitter taste in the tongue, restlessness, abdominal distension, soreness and pain of all joints, and dysuria, this is caused by excessive drinking of alcohol and consumption of fruits, fish, and meat, i.e., all pungent, fishy, hot, and toxic substances. One should treat with Gui Liang Jie Ming Yin (Blood-Cooling Life-Prolonging Decoction).
