Treats swelling, toxic sores, and carbuncles; causes them to dissipate if not yet ulcerated, and promotes rapid healing if already ulcerated. Use powder of *Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix* (Caowutou), mix with water, and apply to the swollen area using a chicken feather. If there is an open sore, first apply a plaster to secure it, preventing the medicine from touching the wound. For patients with severe sores, skin wrinkling can be seen shortly after application, and the swelling gradually subsides. Upon initial application, the patient feels cold like water, but the sore ceases to pain.
Willow White Bark (Banliang, rubbed clean and dried in shade) Beeswax (Siqian) Lead Tetroxide (Erqian) Lead Carbonate (Liang) Oil (Raw oil: Siliang; Cooked oil: Sanliang Baqian)
First cook the oil, add the willow bark roots, wait for the color to change, remove the dregs, then add the medicines and stir for a long time. This formula is particularly effective for reducing swelling and treating injuries from falls or blows. Sun Yi, a doctor from Dengzhou, sold each dose for three hundred coins.
Mica (Select bright ones, peel thinly and boil first) Niter (Yanshi, ground) Licorice Root (Gancao, four liang each) Locust Branch (Huai Zhi) Cypress Leaf (Bai Ye - local varieties are unsuitable) Willow Branch (Liu Zhi) Mulberry Root Bark (Sangbaipi, two liang each) Dried Tangerine Peel (Chen Jupi, one liang) Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) Cinnamon Heart (Guixin) Atractylodes Rhizome (Cangzhu) Acorus Rhizome (Changpu) Scutellaria Root (Huangqin) Galangal Rhizome (Gaoliangjiang) Bupleurum Root (Chaihu) Magnolia Bark (Houpo) Ginseng Root (Renshen) Peony Root (Shaoyao) Pepper Fruit (Hujiaozi) Gentian Root (Longdancao) Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi) Bletilla Rhizome (Baiji) Ampelopsis Rhizome (Bailian) Astragalus Root (Huangqi) Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong) Poria (Fuling) Albizia Flower (Yehua) Prepared Aconite Lateral Root (Fuzi, prepared, half liang or more above, chopped for decoction) Salt Flower (Yanhua) Pine Resin (Songzhi) Chinese Angelica Root (Danggui) Costus Root (Muxiang) Dragon's Blood (Qilinjie) Myrrh (Moyao) Musk (Shexiang) Frankincense (Ruxiang - all half liang above)
First refine the oil until fragrant, add mica and boil for a long time, then add the ingredients from Fuzi onwards. Wait until the herbs are scorched yellow, remove from fire, and let cool. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs. Then add the powdered medicines. Must use low heat, constantly stirring with a willow wood spatula without stopping hands. After filtering, return to the pot and apply heat. Add salt flower until Lead Tetroxide (Huangdan), stir rapidly; the color changes in a moment. Slightly increase the fire to fry; when the paste turns dark black, take a small amount and drop it into water. If it solidifies and does not stick to the hand, remove from fire. First heat a porcelain vessel, pour the medicine inside. When the temperature is like that of the human body, place Mercury (Shuiyin) in a silk bag, and flick it onto the paste in droplets the size of a needle head. Seal with wax paper to prevent drying out; it can be stored for thirty to twenty years without damage. For Back Carbuncle (Fabei), first boil two jin of old woven rush mats in three sheng of water for three to five boils. When warm as the human body, wash the sore, dry with cloth, and apply the medicine. Additionally, take one liang of the medicine, divided into three doses, taken with warm wine. If pus has not formed, it heals immediately and does not recur as a sore. For Scrofula (Luoli) or Bone Abscess where toxicity penetrates to the bone, use one liang of medicine, divided into three doses, taken with warm wine. Severe cases will discharge foul matter; combine with external application. For Intestinal Abscess (Changyong), use half liang of medicine, divided into five doses, taken with Licorice Decoction. If pus has not formed, it dissipates immediately; if pus has formed, it discharges pus along with the medicine. After pus discharge, take five pills the size of wu-tong seeds daily with wine; stop taking when pus stops. For Wind Eye, apply to both Taiyang acupoints. For Kidney Abscess and fractures/dislocations where pain is unbearable, take half liang with wine, adjusting dosage according to age and condition. Take once every five days until finished, combined with external wrapping and bandaging for immediate pain relief. For arrows embedded in flesh, apply externally; eat small amounts of soft mung beans daily, and the arrowhead will emerge naturally. For tiger or leopard bites, first wash with Licorice Decoction, then apply externally, changing once daily, no more than three applications. For snake or dog bites, take ten pills the size of wu-tong seeds with raw oil, and apply externally. For difficult labor lasting three days without delivery, take one fen with warm wine for immediate delivery. For blood syncope nearing death, mix ginger juice and urine (half sheng), take ten pills the size of wu-tong seeds with warm wine; the dead revive. For retained dead fetus in the abdomen, take half liang with Elm Root Decoction for immediate expulsion. For Small Intestine Qi disorder, take one fen with Fennel Decoction, once daily. For Blood-Qi disorders, take one fen with Danggui Wine, once daily. For poisoning, drink sweat-soaked sock juice washed with warm wine, once daily, until foul matter is vomited or purged. For all carbuncles, ulcers, boils, insect/snake bites, apply externally; avoid mutton.
