Jia corresponds to the Gallbladder, Yi to the Liver, Bing to the Small Intestine, Ding to the Heart, Wu to the Stomach, and Ji to the Spleen. Geng corresponds to the Large Intestine, Xin to the Lungs, Ren to the Bladder, and Gui to the Kidneys.
Yi You belongs to Metal, Bing Xu to Water, Ding Hai to Wood, Wu Zi to Fire, Yi Mao to Metal, Bing Chen to Water, Ding Si to Wood, Wu Wu to Fire, Ji Wei to Earth, and Ji Chou to Earth.
Fire (Heart and Small Intestine): A slightly surging pulse at the left Cun position is normal. If a deep pulse appears, it indicates the right Chi position (belonging to Water), representing Water overcoming Fire, which signifies disease.
Wood (Liver and Gallbladder): A slightly wiry pulse at the left Guan position is normal. If a choppy pulse appears, it indicates the right Cun position (belonging to Metal), representing Metal overcoming Wood, which signifies disease.
Water (Kidneys and Bladder): A slightly deep pulse at the left Chi position is normal. If a moderate/slow pulse appears, it indicates the right Guan position (belonging to Earth), representing Earth overcoming Water, which signifies disease.
Metal (Lungs and Large Intestine): A slightly choppy pulse at the right Cun position is normal. If a fine pulse appears [Note: Context implies a pulse indicating Fire overcoming Metal], it indicates the left Cun position, representing Fire overcoming Metal, which signifies disease.
Earth (Spleen and Stomach): A slightly moderate/slow pulse at the right Guan position is normal. If a wiry pulse appears, it indicates the left Guan position (belonging to Wood), representing Wood overcoming Earth, which signifies disease.
Fire (Mingmen and Sanjiao/Triple Burner): A slightly rapid pulse at the right Chi position is normal. If a deep and slow pulse appears, it indicates the left Chi position (belonging to Water), representing Water overcoming Fire, which signifies disease.
A floating pulse at the left Cun indicates excess in the Heart; a deep and slow pulse indicates deficiency in the Heart.
A floating pulse at the left Guan indicates excess in the Liver; a deep and slow pulse indicates deficiency in the Liver.
A floating pulse at the left Chi indicates excess in the Kidneys; a deep and slow pulse indicates deficiency in the Kidneys.
A floating pulse at the right Cun indicates excess in the Lungs; a deep and slow pulse indicates deficiency in the Lungs.
A floating pulse at the right Guan indicates excess in the Spleen; a deep and slow pulse indicates deficiency in the Spleen.
A floating and wiry pulse at the right Chi indicates excess in the Mingmen and Sanjiao; a deep and slow pulse indicates deficiency in the Mingmen and Sanjiao.
Left Hand Pulse: The Cun position corresponds to the Heart and Small Intestine (Fire); the Guan position corresponds to the Liver and Gallbladder (Wood); the Chi position corresponds to the Kidneys and Bladder (Water).
Right Hand Pulse: The Cun position corresponds to the Lungs and Large Intestine (Metal); the Guan position corresponds to the Spleen and Stomach (Earth); the Chi position corresponds to the Mingmen and Sanjiao (Water).
A slightly surging pulse at the left Heart position is a balanced pulse. If the surging quality is excessive with little Stomach Qi, it is a pathological pulse. If the pulse is deep, it involves interaction among the Kidneys, Liver, and Heart. If the surging quality is severe, treat with Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Coptis Decoction for Detoxification). If the pulse is deep and slow, treat with Qingxin Lianzi Yin (Clear Heart Lotus Seed Decoction).
A floating and slightly wiry pulse at the left Guan position is a balanced pulse. If the wiry quality is excessive with little Stomach Qi, it is a pathological pulse. If a choppy pulse appears, it indicates Metal overcoming Wood. If there is excess with wiry and tight qualities, treat with Taoren Chengqi Tang (Peach Kernel and Rhubarb Decoction). If there is deficiency, treat with Muxiang Zhizhi Tang (Costus Regulating Stagnation Decoction).
A deep pulse at the left Chi position is a balanced pulse. If the deep quality is excessive with little Stomach Qi, it is a pathological pulse. If a moderate/slow pulse appears, it indicates Earth overcoming Water. If there is excess, purge with Zishen Wan (Kidney Nourishing Pill) added with Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) and Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome). If there is deficiency, warm with Fuzi Sini Tang (Aconite Reversal Decoction). The Kidneys generally do not present with excess conditions but rather deficiencies.
A slightly choppy pulse at the right Cun position is a balanced pulse. If the choppy quality is excessive with little Stomach Qi, it is a pathological pulse. If a rapid pulse appears internally, it indicates pathogenic Fire from the Heart causing injury. If there is excess, purge with Zhimu Fuling Tang (Anemarrhena and Poria Decoction). If there is deficiency, tonify with Maidong Yinzi (Ophiopogon Drink).
A slightly moderate/slow pulse at the right Guan position is a balanced pulse. If the moderate/slow quality is excessive with little Stomach Qi, it is a pathological pulse. If a wiry pulse appears, it indicates Liver Wood overcoming Earth. If there is excess, purge downward with Tiaowei Chengqi Tang (Regulate the Stomach and Rhubarb Decoction). If there is deficiency, tonify with Zhizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction).
A slightly rapid pulse at the right Chi position is a balanced pulse. If the rapid quality is excessive with little Stomach Qi, it is a pathological pulse. If there is excess, treat with Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder). If there is deficiency, tonify with Sini Tang (Reversal Decoction).
