The Heart meridian corresponds to the Shaoyin Sovereign Fire (Shàoyīn Jūnhuǒ, Lesser Yin Sovereign Fire). If its pulse is surging and floating (Hóng Ruò Fú), it indicates wealth accumulation. If the pulse is surging and moderate (Hóng Huǎn), it is the pulse of the Spleen. The Heart sector receiving the Qi of its mother organ (Spleen Earth) signifies intelligence in youth. It may also indicate obtaining official positions through parental patronage or becoming a prodigy. Intelligence and fame are gained before the age of fifteen. If the pulse appears slippery and rapid (Huá Jí), it indicates heart deficiency diseases in youth, or instability of the lower origin (Xiàyuán, referring to the Kidneys and Mingmen). If a hurried pulse (Cuò Mài) is seen at the Kidney pulse position, diagnosis through calculation can determine the year of onset and the year of recovery. If a choppy pulse (Sè Mài) is seen, death is inevitable; this is caused by thief evil invading the heart and abdomen. If the pulse is slippery and rapid without regularity, the Heart meridian is diseased. If the pulse remains slippery and choppy throughout life, Metal enters the Fire palace, indicating extinction of descendants, loneliness, and poverty/humility. If the pulse is floating and surging, it indicates madness. A rushing downward pulse indicates loss of mind. A scattered pulse indicates worry and suspicion. A pulse that appears and disappears intermittently indicates spiritual interference. Muscle tremors indicate Heart wind. Muscle stiffness/numbness indicates diligence but foolishness. A choppy pulse indicates dryness and cracked skin/muscles. A slippery pulse indicates moisture and nourishment. If the pulse arrives like the first tide, it indicates illness. A surging and breaking pulse indicates Yang collapse. A minute and fine pulse indicates failure in endeavors and speech impediments. A pulse that starts small and becomes large indicates inability to accomplish matters. A pulse that starts large and becomes small indicates beginning with enthusiasm but lacking perseverance. A rapid pulse indicates an impatient temperament. A moderate pulse indicates a lenient temperament. A minute pulse indicates a gentle temperament. A chaotic pulse indicates a perverse temperament. A large pulse indicates unpredictability. A small pulse indicates lack of Qi. Generally, the surging and moderate pulse is primary. If the pulse divides into two paths, it indicates moving to the Migration Palace, often suggesting travel or being away from home. If the pulse is floating and dispersed, it indicates following behind. If there is no pulse but the event manifests later, it signifies the state of an immortal Buddha.
