This is the disease of Ezu (nausea and vomiting during pregnancy), which must be provoked by anger; upon inquiry, it was indeed so. Since the Liver Qi has rebelled upwards and is also carrying the fetal Qi, the tonifying effects of Renshen (Ginseng Radix) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) are highly inappropriate. She was instructed to take Yiqing Wan (Suppressing Green Pill) with twenty-four pills at a time using Fuling Tang (Poria Decoction), for five doses. She felt slightly relieved. Upon examining her pulse, it showed a slight rapidity. She reported dry mouth and bitter taste, and after eating a little porridge, she felt sourness in her mouth. I surmised that the stagnant Qi in the diaphragm had not yet fully dispersed. I instructed her to decoct Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Fuling (Poria), and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) as a decoction, taking fifteen pills of Yiqing Wan with it. After more than ten doses, the other symptoms subsided, but she could only eat half of her usual amount, felt sourness in the mouth after eating, and felt easily hungry when not eating. I stated that since the Liver Heat had not yet settled, she should take twenty pills of Yiqing Wan with plain boiled water. It took twenty days for her to stabilize. I examined her pulse again and found that although both hands' pulses were peaceful, the left hand's pulse was extremely weak. This indicated the fetus would certainly miscarry. Now that the Liver Qi has settled, Renshen and Baizhu can be used. Thus, I used the initial prescription containing Renshen and Baizhu to tonify, preventing deficiency after the miscarriage. After one month of服用 (taking medicine), the fetus naturally miscarried, yet she remained stable and uneventful. Yiqing Wan consists solely of Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) made into pills.
[Daquan] Fetal movement insecurity during pregnancy is caused by deficiency of the Chong and Ren meridians, resulting in an unstable conception. There are also cases caused by excessive alcohol consumption or sexual intercourse, damaging and disturbing the fetus. There are cases caused by accidental blows or touches leading to fetal movement. There are cases where joy, anger, or emotional stagnation damages the Heart and Liver, disturbing the blood vessels. There are cases where trusting doctors to take warm tonics results in harm from the medication. There are cases where the mother's illness causes fetal movement; treating the mother's illness will naturally calm the fetus. There are cases where the fetus is not firm, and its movement triggers maternal illness; only calming the fetus will heal the mother. One should observe the mother's complexion and tongue: if the face is red and the tongue is cyanotic, the fetus is dead while the mother lives. If the face is cyanotic and the tongue is red, with saliva flowing from the mouth, the mother dies while the fetus lives. If the lips and mouth are cyanotic with saliva flowing from both sides, both mother and fetus die.
[Xue Ji] For the aforementioned conditions involving stagnant fetal Qi, use Zisu Yin (Perilla Drink). For Spleen Qi deficiency, use Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Zisu (Perillae Folium) and Zhike (Aurantii Fructus). For stagnation injuring the Spleen, use Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) added with Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus). For depression and anger injuring the Liver and Spleen, use Siqi Tang (Four Emotions Decoction) added with Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) and Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Radix). For anger stirring Liver Fire, use Jiawei Xiaochaihu Tang (Modified Minor Bupleurum Decoction). If the fetus is already dead, urgently use Pingwei San (Peace the Stomach Powder) added with Poxiao (Natrii Sulfas) to rot and expel it.
Yonggu Yun Tang (Eternal Pregnancy Preservation Decoction)

Pound the above five ingredients into a powder. Take one fangcunbi (square-inch spoonful) with wine, twice daily. Common use during pregnancy facilitates easy delivery, keeps the fetus free from distress, and treats various postpartum diseases.
For nourishing the fetus during pregnancy, Baizhu San (Atractylodes Powder) is indicated.
Baizhu San
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) (each 1 liang); Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper Fruit, de-sweated) (7.5 qian); Muli (Ostreae Concha) (0.5 liang).

If there is heart vexation and pain, vomiting, and inability to eat, add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 1 liang and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum) 20 large pieces. Afterwards, take with Cu Jiangshui (Vinegar Grain Water). If vomiting occurs, take with Cu Jiangshui. If still unresolved, drink Xiaomai Zhi (Wheat Juice). If thirsty afterwards, take Damai Zhou (Barley Porridge). Even if the disease resolves, do not stop taking the medicine.
