[Da] When a woman suffers from body and joint pain due to Blood Wind (Xue Feng), it is caused by physical weakness, disharmony of Qi and Blood, and invasion by Wind pathogen. The manifestation involves Wind pathogen residing in the skin and muscles, traversing to the joints, where the pathogenic factor clashes with the healthy Qi, resulting in pain.
[Xue] Master Dongyuan stated: Irregular diet leads to Spleen and Stomach deficiency, which is a disease originating from Blood; thus, mouth fluids fail to circulate. If Fire-Heat attacks the Earth position (Spleen/Stomach), it causes limb fever and thirst. For Liver channel Blood Heat, use Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) [Zabing Xulao], Qianghuo, Huangqin, and Huangbai. For Liver channel Blood Deficiency, use Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) [Tiaojing], Zhizi, and Chuanxiong. For Damp-Wind combined with Phlegm, use Siwu Tang, Nanxing, Banxia, Qianghuo, and Cangzhu. For Damp-Winj injuring the Spleen, use Qianghuo Shengshi Tang (Qianghuo Decoction for Overcoming Dampness) [Zabing Yaotong]. For Summerheat-Damp injuring Qi, use Qingzao Tang [Zabing Shangshu]. For Qi Stagnation affecting Liver and Spleen, use Sijunzi Tang, Muxiang, Zhiqiao, and Binglang. For injured Stomach Qi, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang [Zabing Shanglaojuan]. For Blood Stasis flowing and accumulating, use Siwu Tang, Taoren, and Honghua. For bone pain and tendon spasms, use Danggui Moyao Wan (Angelica Sinensis and Myrrh Pill) [Mutiao]. For fatigue and weakness, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Qianghuo and Chuanxiong.
One woman suffered spontaneous sweating and night sweats, fever with afternoon tidal fever, body fatigue, poor appetite, irregular menstruation, and excessive vomiting of phlegm. Two years later, she experienced whole-body pain, worsening on rainy days. This was Qi deficiency with invasion of Cold-Wind; after taking Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Xu Ming Decoction), the pain ceased immediately. Subsequently, taking Buzhong Yiqi Tang and Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Powder) for over thirty doses cured all symptoms.
Another woman had irregular menstruation and a history of Gout (Tongfeng), which flared up upon exertion and relieved slightly with heavy pressure. This indicated dual deficiency of Qi and Blood; using Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Complete Tonifying Decoction) [Zabing Xulao] added with Duhuo cured the pain, while Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) [Zabing Xulao] and Xiaoyao San regulated her menstruation.
A third woman presented with limb pain, sallow complexion, occasional redness or pallor, fever with aversion to cold, vomiting and diarrhea with poor intake, abdominal pain and hypochondriac distension, irregular menstruation ranging from flooding to spotting, excessive phlegm with wheezing and coughing, dizziness and headache, five-palm heat, thirst for hot drinks, forgetfulness, palpitations, night sweats, and insomnia. Bedridden for over a year, these were all attributed to Liver and Spleen deficiency causing insufficient Qi and Blood. Taking Shiquan Dabu Tang and Jiawei Guipi Tang concurrently for over a month cured all conditions.
