Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Each dose is half a qian or one qian, mixed with rice gruel and taken at any time.
Guzhen Tang (Consolidate Truth Decoction) (formula cited previously).
All the above are primary medicines for treating Manpi Feng (Slow Spasm Syndrome of the Spleen).
Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) is appropriately treated with cooling purgation, while Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) is appropriately treated with warming tonification; this is a fixed rule. However, there are cases where Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) does not resolve with cooling purgation and transforms into Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), and cases where Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) does not resolve with warming tonification and transforms into Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome). In such instances, medicines that treat both acute and chronic spasm syndrome should be used.
Duoming San (Life-Restoring Powder) can strongly control wind-phlegm. Regardless of whether it is Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) or Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), if phlegm-saliva surges and obstructs the throat, producing a sound like tidal waves, known as "Chaoxian" (Tidal Saliva), and no other medicine can pass down the throat, with life hanging in the balance, use this medicine first. Once it enters the throat, the phlegm will descend immediately. Its efficacy is perfect, akin to seizing the creation of heaven and earth.
Qingmengshi (Calamina), one liang, placed in a ganwozi (clay pot), calcined together with one liang of Yanxiao (Saltpeter) over charcoal fire until red-hot. Wait until the saltpeter is completely consumed and the substance turns golden upon cooling. Use this prepared material.
Grind the above herb into a fine powder. For Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) with phlegm-heat obstructing the upper body and high fever, mix fresh Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) natural juice with honey, warm slightly, and administer. After a long while, the medicine will naturally wrap around the phlegm and cause it to descend, expelling it through the large intestine like thick, sticky mucus; this is the effect of the medicine. Subsequently, administer medicines for clearing heat, dispelling wind, and stopping spasms. For Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), when phlegm-saliva surges upward, blocking the throat and preventing the intake of medicine and food, leaving the physician with no options due to urgent circumstances, use this medicine alone. Combine it with Qingzhou Bai Wan (Green White Pills), re-grind into powder, decoct into a thin paste, mix with cooked honey, and administer. The saliva will then descend into the abdomen. Subsequently, administer medicines such as Huashe (Bungarus multicinctus), Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix), Quanxie (Scorpio), and Wugong (Scolopendra).
Da Heilong Wan (Great Black Dragon Pill) treats pediatric Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) with miraculous efficacy. (Formula cited under Jijing Feng section.)
Zhenjing Wan (Calm Spirit Pill)
Hupo (Electroplaci Lamina), Chensha (Cinnabaris), Zhenzhumu (Margaritifera Concha), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (each 2.5 qian); Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Lvhui (Aloe), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Qingmengshi (Calamina, nitre-processed) (each half liang); Tianzhu Huang (Bambusae Concretio Silicea), Dansheng (Arisaematis Cum Bile) (each 2 liang); Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Ruxiang (Olibanum) (each 1 liang); Xionghuang (Realgar) (1.5 qian).
Grind the above herbs into powder, bind with Gancao paste (Licorice extract) into pills the size of a chicken head. For Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), administer with Renshen-Baizhu Tang (Ginseng and Atractylodes Decoction). For Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome), administer with Bohe-Jiang-Mi Tang (Mint-Ginger-Honey Decoction).
Zeng Shi Zhenjing Wan (Dr. Zeng’s Calm Spirit Pill) (Formula cited under Jijing Feng section.)
Pediatric Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome)
Quanxie (Scorpio, 49 pieces, lightly stir-fried to yellow); Chensha (Cinnabaris, half liang, ground extremely fine and mixed evenly).
Take ten earthworms, wash clean, place in a small bottle, and apply warm heat until the worms liquefy. Use this liquid to bind the pills to the size of peppercorns. Each dose is three pills, dissolved in smooth running water and administered.
Pediatric Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome)
Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, three pieces); Chensha (Cinnabaris, size of a bean); Quanxie (Scorpio, one piece); Zhenzhu Mo (Pearl Powder, a pinch).
Grind the above into powder. Take small insects from mugwort, grind one insect per pill, making them the size of hemp seeds. Each pill is administered with milk.
Baoming Dan (Life-Preserving Pill) (from *Ben Shi Fang*) treats pediatric Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), with cold extremities, staring eyes, locked jaw, and continuous drooling.
Hu Jing (Tiger Eye, one pair, placed on a tile, covered with another tile, and dried slowly over low heat); Zhusha (Cinnabaris, half liang); Quanxie (Scorpio); Shexiang (Moschus) (each half qian); Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, one fen); Wugong (Scolopendra, two pieces, remove head and tail, use those with red legs).
Grind the above into a fine powder, bind with refined honey into pills the size of soybeans. Store in a clay jar, sealed with Naobing (Borneolum Syntheticum) and Shexiang (Moschus). For Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome), dissolve in Mint-Honey Water and administer. For Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), dissolve in Mint Water and administer, three pills each time.
Wenjing Wan (Warm Spasm Pill) (also known as Fen Hong Wan / Pink Pill)
Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, ground into powder, placed in an ox gallbladder from the twelfth lunar month, dried in shade for 100 days, then ground again, four liang); Zhusha (Cinnabaris, 1.5 qian); Tianzhu Huang (Bambusae Concretio Silicea, one liang); Peizi Yanzhi (Raw Rouge, half qian); Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, five fen, ground separately).
Bind with ox bile into pills the size of a chicken head. Each dose is one pill; infants take half a pill, administered with sugar water.
Baolong Wan (Embracing Dragon Pill) treats Wind-Cold plague, fever, lethargy, coarse breathing, cough due to wind-heat and phlegm-stagnation, and convulsive spasms. It can also be taken after exposure to gu poison, summerheat, or bathing. It is suitable for frequently administering to robust children. (Danxi stated that Baolong Wan acts on the Heart, Lung, and Liver.)
Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, if ox bile is unavailable, use raw Nanxing chopped and stir-fried until cooked, four liang); Tianzhu Huang (Bambusae Concretio Silicea, one liang); Xionghuang (Realgar, water-triturated); Chensha (Cinnabaris, ground separately, each half liang); Shexiang (Moschus, ground separately, one qian).
Grind the above into powder, boil Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) paste, and bind into pills the size of soap pods. Dissolve in warm water and administer. For infants under 100 days, divide one pill into three to four doses. For five-year-old children, administer one to two pills. Adults take three to five pills. It also treats leukorrhea in young women. For latent summerheat, chew one or two pills with a little salt and swallow with fresh well water. Using snow water from the twelfth lunar month to boil Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) and mix with the medicine is particularly good. Another method: soak Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) in fermented grain water or fresh water for three days until permeable, boil until soft, boil three to five times, remove while still soft, peel off the skin, slice the white soft part thinly, dry, and stir-fry until yellow. Take eight liang of powder. Use two-and-a-half liang of Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), crushed, soaked in two bowls of water overnight, boiled slowly to one bowl, strained, and gradually poured into the Nanxing powder. Grind slowly until the Gancao water is absorbed, then add the remaining herbs.
Hupo Baolong Wan (Amber Embracing Dragon Pill) (by Dr. Zeng)
The meaning of "Embracing Dragon": "Embrace" means to protect; "Dragon" refers to the Liver. The Liver corresponds to the Azure Dragon of the East, belonging to Wood. Wood generates Fire. What generates me is considered my parent; thus, the Liver is the mother and the Heart is the son. If the mother is peaceful, the son is peaceful. The Heart stores the Shen (Spirit), and the Liver stores the Hun (Ethereal Soul). Once the Shen and Hun are settled, from where would fright arise? Hence, it is called Baolong Wan. It treats various fright syndromes in children, wind-cold invasion in all seasons, epidemic pathogenic heat causing restlessness, phlegm-cough and rapid breathing, and convulsions during the eruption phase of rashes. It is suitable for all these conditions. Its nature is warm and neutral, neither excessive nor drying. Regular use dispels wind and resolves phlegm, calms the heart and clears heat, harmonizes the spleen and stomach, and benefits the spirit.

The above formulas collectively treat Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome). This is because deficiency and excess often appear together, and acute and chronic conditions transform into each other, necessitating a comprehensive treatment approach. Generally speaking, although Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) differ, they both originate from Phlegm. Therefore, substances like Mengshi (Calamina), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) can treat them comprehensively. Specifically, Mengshi (Calamina) subtypes purge phlegm; Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) subtypes purge Liver Wood; Zhusha (Cinnabaris) subtypes purge Fire. These are agents for treating Qi Excess syndromes. Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) subtypes tonify Earth (Spleen); Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) and Quanxie (Scorpio) subtypes tonify Wood (Liver); Wu (Aconiti Radix) and Fu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) subtypes tonify Fire (Kidney). These are agents for treating Qi Deficiency syndromes. Thus, this represents a method of combining tonification and purgation to comprehensively treat both deficiency and excess.
