According to "Chao Shi Bing Yuan: Pediatric Diarrhea with Thirst Syndrome": This is water-grain diarrhea where body fluids are depleted, causing the fu organs to become deficient and dry, leading to thirst. If urination is smooth, the diarrhea stops, and the thirst ceases.
If urination is obstructed, water cannot pass through the small intestine but seeps into the intestines and stomach; thus, thirst does not cease, nor does the diarrhea. In such cases, the body swells because the Spleen Qi is weak and cannot control water retention. It also inevitably leads to eye pain and cataracts, as children naturally have heat in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner); now, due to diarrhea, the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner) becomes deficient, causing the heat in the Upper Jiao to intensify and harass the Liver. Mr. Mao believed this was caused by dietary injury to the Spleen and Stomach. First, regulate with Xingpi San (Awaken Spleen Powder) and Yunqi San (Harmonize Qi Powder). After one day, use Tiaozhong Yin (Regulate Middle Drink) (all three formulas are suitable for those refusing food/milk), combined with Jia Rushan San (Added Frankincense Powder for diarrhea) and Longxian Gao (Dragon Saliva Paste for thirst) for regulation until recovery.
