To treat bee stings, apply peppermint leaves to the affected area for recovery. Chew ginseng and seal the wound. Apply su (clarified butter) to the site. Grind realgar with vinegar and apply topically. Mix powder from honeycomb with lard and apply; (washing with decoction is also acceptable). For yellow jacket stings, wash with hot wine for immediate effect. Another method: apply refined oil until healed.
Zhang Jian, while serving as a subordinate official under Zhang Yanshang in Jiannan, was suddenly bitten on the neck by a spider known as "Ban". After one night, two red streaks appeared at the bite site, thin like tendons winding around the neck, extending from the chest to the Heart Meridian. After two nights, his head and face swelled and became painful, large as several sheng bowls, and his abdomen gradually swelled, nearly leading to death. Lord Zhang, who highly valued Zhang Jian, offered five hundred thousand coins from his own wealth plus five hundred thousand from Zhang Jian's family to recruit someone capable of treating him. Suddenly, a man responded to the call, stating he could cure it. Lord Zhang initially did not trust him and wanted to verify the prescription, so he ordered the medicine to be prepared before his eyes. The man said, "I do not withhold prescriptions; I only seek to save lives!" He then took a porcelain bowl full of Isatis root juice, threw the spider into it, and after a long while, retrieved it; the spider was exhausted and unable to move. He separately crushed more Isatis juice, added musk and realgar, mixed them, and threw another spider into the liquid, which immediately turned into water. Lord Zhang and the others were greatly amazed. They then applied the mixture to the bite site, and within two days, the patient fully recovered, leaving only small sores at the bite sites that scabbed over and fell off as if nothing had happened.
[Hai Zang] For spider bites causing sores all over the body, take one stalk of green onion, make a hole at the smaller end, place an earthworm inside, pinch both ends tightly to prevent air leakage, shake until it turns into water, and apply drops to the bite site for recovery.
To treat spider sores, apply sheep milk or smear with refined oil to bring relief.
[Dan Xi] For spider bites, chew garlic chive whites and apply as a poultice.
[Shan Ju] For bites by spiders and various other insects, mix Polygonum multiflorum starch with fresh ginger juice and apply topically.
[Jing] For spider bites, mix saliva with powdered Kudzu Root (Sophora Flavescens Radix - *Note: Shan Dou Gen usually refers to Sophora Tonkinensis, but Jing implies traditional usage*) and apply. For dog bites, Pifu Chuang (ant nest inflammation), and snake bites, grind Kudzu Root (Sophora Flavescens Radix) with water and apply. (Pi, pronounced pin. Pifu refers to large ants.) Another method: for spider bites where silk-like threads appear on the body, drink one portion of sheep milk. Crush ash, mix with oil, and apply.
[Shen Cunzhong] Qin Pi (Phellodendron Bark) alone can treat Tianshe Du (Heavenly Snake Poison). This sore resembles leprosy but is not leprosy; Tianshe refers to the yellow flower spider found in grass. If a person is bitten by it and subsequently wetted by dew, this disease develops. Boil Qin Pi to produce one dou of decoction, drink it, and recover.
Bijing (spiders large as house spiders but flat-shaped, with spots, eight long legs, spinning white webs the size of coins, sticking to walls.) Bites are fatal. Burn mulberry wood to ash, boil in water for three to four boils, filter the juice, and apply to the sore; this also treats snake venom. Another method: grind realgar, mix with vinegar, and apply for excellent results. Another method: grind Rhubarb, boil with vinegar water, and apply for excellent results.
