星香丸 治诸气嗽生痰。
南星 半夏（各三两，用白矾一两入水，同二味浸一宿） 陈皮（五两，米泔浸一周时，去白，取净
三两） 香附子（三两，皂角水浸一周时，晒干）
上四味，俱不见火，碾为细末，姜汁煮面糊和丸，如梧子大。每服五十丸，食后淡生姜汤送下。
〔湿痰〕
白术汤 治五脏受湿，咳嗽痰多，上气喘急，身体重痛，脉濡细。
白术（三钱） 白茯苓（去皮） 半夏（汤泡七次） 橘红（各二钱） 五味子 甘草（炙。各一钱）
上作一服，用水二盅，生姜五片，煎至一盅，不拘时服。
麻黄汤 治肺脏发咳，咳而喘急有声，甚则唾血。
麻黄（三钱） 桂枝（二钱） 甘草（一钱） 杏仁（二十粒）
上水煎服。
桔梗汤 治心脏发咳，咳而喉中如梗状，甚则咽肿喉痹。
苦桔梗（三钱） 甘草（六钱）
上水煎服。
小柴胡汤（见往来寒热。）
升麻汤 治脾脏发咳，咳而右胁下痛，痛引肩背，甚则不可以动。
升麻 白芍药 甘草（各二钱） 葛根（三钱）
上水煎服。
麻黄附子细辛汤 治肾脏发咳，咳则腰背相引而痛，甚则咳涎。又治寒邪犯齿，致
脑齿痛，宜急用之，缓则不救。
麻黄 细辛（各二钱） 附子（一钱）
上水煎服。
乌梅丸 治胃腑发咳，咳而呕，呕甚则长虫出。
乌梅（三十枚） 细辛 附子 桂枝 人参 黄柏（各六钱） 干姜（一两） 黄连（一两五钱） 当
归蜀椒（各四两）
上为末，先用酒浸乌梅一宿，去核蒸之，与米饭捣如泥为丸，桐子大。每服三十丸，白汤下。
黄芩半夏生姜汤 治胆腑发咳，呕苦水如胆汁。
黄芩（炒） 生姜（各三钱） 甘草（炙） 半夏（各二钱）
上姜、水煎服。
赤石脂禹余粮汤 治大肠腑发咳，咳而遗矢。
赤石脂 禹余粮（各二两，并打碎）
上水煎服。
芍药甘草汤 治小肠腑发咳，咳而失气。
芍药 甘草（炙。各四钱）
上水煎服。
茯苓甘草汤 治膀胱腑发咳，咳而遗溺。
茯苓（二钱） 桂枝（二钱五分） 生姜（五大片） 炙甘草（一钱）
上水煎服。
钱氏异功散 治久咳不已，或腹痛少食，面肿气逆。又治脾胃虚弱，饮食少思等证。
人参 茯苓 白术 甘草 陈皮（各等分）
上每服三五钱，姜、枣水煎服。
〔肺痿〕
人参养肺汤 治肺痿咳嗽有痰，午后热，
并声嘶者。
人参（去芦） 阿胶（蛤粉炒） 贝母 杏仁（炒） 桔梗 茯苓 桑皮 枳实 甘草（以上各一
钱） 柴胡（二钱） 五味子（半钱）
上水二盅，生姜三片，枣一枚，煎至一盅，食远服。
〔肺胀〕
越婢加半夏汤（见喘。）
Xingxiang Wan (Star Arisaema and Cyperus Pill): Treats cough accompanied by phlegm production caused by various types of Qi stagnation.
Arisaema Cum Bile (Nanxing), Pinellia Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia) (each 3 liang, soaked overnight with 1 liang of Alum in water); Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi) (5 liang, soaked in rice wash water for one week, white pith removed, pure peel weighing 3 liang retained); Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfuzi) (3 liang, soaked in Saposhnikoviae Radix water for one week, then dried).
The above four herbs are not roasted over fire, but ground into fine powder. They are mixed with ginger juice and wheat flour paste to form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take 50 pills per dose, administered after meals with light ginger soup.
[Damp-Phlegm]
Baizhu Tang (Atractylodes Macrocephala Decoction): Treats cough with excessive phlegm, rapid upper breathing (asthma), heavy body pain, and a soggy and fine pulse, resulting from dampness invading the five Zang organs.
Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) (3 qian), Poria (Baifuling) (peeled), Pinellia Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia) (soaked in boiling water seven times), Exocarpium Citri Grandis (Juhong) (each 2 qian), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata (Gancao) (roasted, each 1 qian).
Combine as one dose. Add two cups of water and five slices of fresh Ginger (Shengjiang). Decoct until one cup remains. Take at any time.
Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Lung organ, characterized by cough with wheezing and audible sounds, and in severe cases, spitting blood.
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang) (3 qian), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) (2 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (1 qian), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren) (20 grains).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Jiegeng Tang (Platycodon Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Heart organ, characterized by a sensation of obstruction in the throat during coughing, and in severe cases, sore throat and throat bi syndrome.
Radix Platycodonis (Kujiegeng) (3 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (6 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) (See "Alternating Cold and Heat").
Shengma Tang (Cimicifugae Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Spleen organ, characterized by pain under the right hypochondrium during coughing, radiating to the shoulder and back, and in severe cases, inability to move.
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishaoyao), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (each 2 qian), Puerariae Radix (Gegen) (3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang (Ephedra, Aconite, and Asarum Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Kidney organ, characterized by pulling pain between the waist and back during coughing, and in severe cases, coughing up saliva. It also treats toothache and brain pain caused by cold pathogenic factors invading the teeth; it should be used urgently, as delay renders treatment ineffective.
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin) (each 2 qian), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) (1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Wumei Wan (Mume Pill): Treats cough originating from the Stomach organ, characterized by cough with vomiting, and in severe cases, expulsion of roundworms.
Fructus Mume (Wumei) (30 pieces), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) (each 6 qian), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang) (1 liang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (1.5 liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (Shujiao) (each 4 liang).
Grind into powder. Soak Wumei in wine overnight, remove pits, steam, and mash with rice meal into a paste to form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take 30 pills per dose with plain warm water.
Huangqin Banxia Shengjiang Tang (Scutellaria, Pinellia, and Fresh Ginger Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Gallbladder organ, characterized by vomiting bitter fluid resembling bile.
Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) (stir-fried), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang) (each 3 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (roasted), Pinellia Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia) (each 2 qian).
Decoct with fresh Ginger and water and take orally.
Chishizhi Yuyuliang Tang (Red Halloysite and Metasequoia Seed Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Large Intestine organ, characterized by cough with fecal incontinence.
Halloysitum Rubrum (Chishizhi), Metasequoiæ Semen (Yuyuliang) (each 2 liang, crushed).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Shaoyao Gancao Tang (Peony and Licorice Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Small Intestine organ, characterized by cough with flatus.
Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (roasted, each 4 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Fuling Gancao Tang (Poria and Licorice Decoction): Treats cough originating from the Bladder organ, characterized by cough with urinary incontinence.
Poria (Fuling) (2 qian), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) (2.5 qian), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang) (5 large slices), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata (Zhigancao) (1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Qianshi Yigong San (Dr. Qian’s Yi Gong Powder): Treats chronic persistent cough, or abdominal pain with poor appetite, facial edema, and rebellious Qi. It also treats syndromes of Spleen and Stomach deficiency with reduced desire for food.
Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Poria (Fuling), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi) (equal parts).
Take 3 to 5 qian per dose, decoct with fresh Ginger and Jujube in water and take orally.
[Fei Wei / Lung Atrophy]
Renshen Yangfei Tang (Ginseng Lung-Nourishing Decoction): Treats cough with phlegm due to Fei Wei (Lung Atrophy), afternoon fever, and hoarseness.
Ginseng Radix (Renshen) (rhizome removed), Colla Corii Asini (Ejiao) (fried with clam powder), Fritillariae Bulbus (Beimu), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren) (fried), Platcodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Poria (Fuling), Morus Cortex (Sangpifu), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (each 1 qian), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu) (2 qian), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) (0.5 qian).
Add two cups of water, three slices of fresh Ginger, and one Jujube. Decoct until one cup remains. Take well after meals.
