Commentary: If the above formula is indeed for leprosy, it will be effective. However, if liver channel blood heat, spleen channel blood deficiency, kidney channel deficient fire, spleen and lung qi deficiency cause generalized itching, sores from scratching, internal heat generating wind causing eyebrow/beard loss, red halos on skin, or white scales resembling leprosy, taking this may actually induce leprosy.

Qiepo discusses malignant diseases saying: There are four hundred and four types of rapid wind, generally summarized as not exceeding five types, which are covered by the Five Winds. What are the Five Winds? One is Yellow Wind, two is Green Wind, three is White Wind, four is Red Wind, five is Black Wind. These winds correspond to the five zang organs, hence called Five Winds.
The Five Winds generate five types of worms. Yellow Wind generates yellow worms, Green Wind generates green worms, White Wind generates white worms, Red Wind generates red worms, Black Wind generates black worms. These five types of worms eat the five zang organs. If they eat the spleen, speech becomes altered and voice scattered; if they eat the liver, eyebrows and eyelashes fall out; if they eat the heart, sores appear all over the body; if they eat the lungs, the nasal bridge collapses and flesh grows in the nose; if they eat the kidneys, tinnitus sounds like buzzing or drumbeats; if they eat the skin, the skin becomes tough and numb; if they eat the tendons, limbs and joints fall off. The Five Winds combine with the five zang organs, worms multiply excessively, enter the bone marrow, move freely, damage the human body, called Rapid Wind. Rapid Wind is the root of leprosy. At the beginning of the disease, it may feel like needle pricks, called Pricking Wind; like insects crawling, called Wandering Wind; whole body twitching, called [Missing Character] Wind; no sensation of pain or itch, called Stubborn Wind; flesh rises like peach or plum kernels, starting from head and face, called Favorable Wind; starting from both feet, called Adverse Wind; like connected coins round, red, white, green, black mottled, called KT Wind. Or sores all over the body, like scabies/tinea, like fish scales, like elm seeds, like coin holes, itchy or painful, yellow fluid flows out, limbs and joints rot, turning entirely to pus and blood, or no itch or pain, appearing and disappearing, colors changing unpredictably among green, yellow, red, white, black. The cause of the disease arises from cold and heat interacting, flowing into the five zang organs, penetrating bone marrow, excessive physical exertion, improper diet, irregular sexual activity, deficiency movement and extreme fatigue, sweating all over the body, thus accumulating heat penetrating the five zang organs, impure diet, worms multiplying excessively, eating five zang organs, bone marrow, skin, flesh, tendons and joints, slowly destroying them, called Leprosy. Therefore it is said: To treat it, first take Awel Leiwan San to expel worms, observe their shape (green, yellow, red, white, black), then give medicine to treat. Thousands of cases will surely heal. Hu says Gamala disease, doctors raise hands in surrender, no formula to treat, called righteous retribution, this is incorrect. Those who get this disease often become immortals; often people getting this illness abandon family and wealth, enter mountains, and thus the disease heals, becoming immortals. Nowadays patients, if they leave wives and go to relatives' homes, will surely heal.
Awel Leiwan San Formula
Awel (Ferulae Resina) Zi Leiwan (Polyporus? Or specific pill, likely Polyporus Umbellatus or similar antiparasitic) Xionghuang (Realgar) Zi Shiyin (Fluorite) (Each 3 fen) Zhusha (Cinnabar) Huashi (Talcum) Shidan (Melanteritum) Ci Huang (Orpiment) Lu Gen (Phragmitis Rhizoma) Bailian (Pseudobulbus Belamcandae) Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu. Each 0.5 liang) Banmao (Mylabris, remove feet and wings) Yuanjing (Blister Beetle, remove feet and wings, each 40 pieces) Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, 5 fen) Zi Mao (Purple Lac, 1 liang)
Grind these fifteen ingredients into powder. Take one qian bi on an empty stomach, drink with two he of clear wine, mixing medicine and drinking completely. Eating adzuki bean soup when very hungry is good, do not eat too much, stop when half full. If eaten too full, worm expulsion will be delayed. Take another dose on an empty stomach in the afternoon southwest sun, amount as before. If feeling urination like strangury, take medicine regardless of time, amount as before, eat when very hungry. When urinating, urinate into a basin, look at it, worms should come out, either that day, or second/third day, or fourth/fifth day, or seventh day after killing the medicine person. Worms vary from size of human finger to wheat grain, or 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 10, or 30-20 pieces. Yellow worms resemble soil color, red worms resemble minced meat/coagulated blood, white worms resemble human sputum or fish brain or ginger-soy sauce juice, green worms resemble green or radish green, black worms resemble ink or rotten mulberry or black soybean. Worms dying from medicine exit via urine, some also via feces, impure and hard to see. If black worms come out, it is Black Wind, cannot be treated, no formula matches. If yellow worms come out, it is Yellow Wind, use 7-8 sheng of urine, store in large jar, place jar like stove method, seal tightly, fill with urine, keep warm inside, immerse body in it, several times a day, sit and immerse for time equivalent to cooking 2-3 dou of rice. If chest feels stifled, come out. Drink soup and eat several times, do not let hunger make one weak. 49 days is one complete cycle, stop when healed. Or avoid sexual intercourse for 1-2 years; if intercourse opens meridians, worms find opportunity to attack, worsening the condition. This is not cold/heat wind treatment, this is horizontal disease, not righteous retribution. If green worms come out, it is Green Wind, pathology mostly from cold wind, worms are all green, representing East Wood poison wind. Green worms should drink own urine, also called Clear Yang or Yuanzhong Water. Method: Take on empty stomach, one dose per 7 days, 6 he, take at dawn when sun rises, do not exceed 1 sheng. Eat when hungry. Avoid five pungents, pork, chicken, dog, dirty/smelly foods, anger, and sexual intercourse. First taboo is most important. Until 14 days, take twice a day, 4 he each, always take urine on empty stomach, do not exceed 1 sheng. 21 days, take three times a day. Until 28 days, take immediately after urination, up to one year, stop when healed, do not exceed 1 sheng. After 100 days, urine is less, only once or twice a day, taste is fragrant and good like soup/juice. Taboo lasts 3 years, violation makes healing difficult, non-violation leads to permanent cure. Green worms like this are horizontal disease, not righteous retribution. White worms coming out is White Wind, red worms is Red Wind, treat equally. These two winds have heat as root, worms are red/white, representing South/West Wind entering five zang organs, penetrating bone marrow, causing disease. For these two winds, drink Kushen Xiaoshi Wine, removes disease quickly, heat gone, disease heals.
Kushen Xiaoshi Wine Formula (Wine soaking method follows)
Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas) Qingjiu (Clear Wine)
Soak Natrii Sulfas in clear wine first, for 14 or 21 days, then add Kushen together into wine jar, soak for 7 days, take gradually. Drinking method: Take on empty stomach, three times a day. First 7 days, one dose like half an egg yolk. After 7 days, can drink 1 sheng, drink as desired, more is better, disease goes faster, wind moves more, do not let vomit from drunkenness, prefer gradual less drinking, not much drinking. Red and White winds, this medicine will heal all by its day, others are not difficult to treat. Why? Heat is root, so Kushen treats heat, Xiaoshi removes heat and kills worms. Red and White worms, just smelling Xiaoshi vapor turn to water, can remove heat root. If suffering Red/White winds, regardless of years, even over 5 years, add Huang Xiaoshi, add wine, Kushen up to 3-4 liang, no case unhealed. Even 30 years, no nasal bridge, limbs fallen, as long as not black worms, all can permanently heal. First taboo sexual intercourse, great anger, hot foods, forbid sticky foods, five pungents, cold/raw, strong vinegar, cheese, white wine, pig, fish, chicken, dog, donkey, horse, cow, sheep meats, all major taboos, others not forbidden. This is counter-treatment, not righteous retribution. If stubborn numbness, no pain/itch sensation, apply Da Bai Gao Yao to rub, 3-4 times a day, 7 days complete, or 2-3 weeks complete, up to 49 days, called one major complete cycle, stubborn numbness feels itchy, returns to normal, stop rubbing. If not recovered, continue rubbing, limit to healing, not exceeding two major cycles, three major cycles no unhealed. Acupuncture, moxibustion, burning, cutting,劫 (coercion?) are not as good as rubbing, even if many scars on body, rubbing heals all.
