When blood surges to the chest, or when epistaxis (nosebleed) or hematemesis (vomiting blood) occurs, Xijiao Dihuang Tang is the primary treatment.
Xijiao Dihuang Tang (from *Ren Shu*)

When all six pulses are thin, wiry, and choppy, feeling empty upon pressure, and the complexion is pale, dull, and lusterless, this indicates blood loss (Tuoxue). This is a severe cold syndrome. It heals with acrid-warm blood-tonifying methods assisted by sweet-warm and slippery-lubricating agents; this is a syndrome of blood loss damaging essence and qi. If all six pulses are large but empty upon pressure, accompanied by palpitations, red face, susceptibility to fright, and upper body heat, this relates to the Hand-Shaoyin Heart meridian. This results from excessive qi leading to blood loss. Use sweet-cold and heavy-settling agents to drain fire and qi, suppressing floating qi, then use acrid-warm and slightly bitter agents to vigorously tonify blood, followed by Sanhuang Buxue Tang.
