Taste is sweet, nature is neutral, non-toxic. It primarily treats stomach qi disharmony, opens the appetite and aids digestion, removes damp-fluid accumulation in the body, and makes the person fat and strong. The large ones are six or seven chi long, white in color with raised heads, living in rivers and lakes. (Currently appended)
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully cite Meng Shen's statement: Baiyu (White Fish) primarily treats deficiency of liver qi, but should not be eaten in excess as it obstructs heart qi. Although it does not immediately cause disease, it ultimately nourishes the accumulated food (leading to stagnation). Fresh fish is good; long-term consumption causes various diseases of the heart and abdomen. It can be boiled or roasted, cooked once or twice in green onions and vinegar. It also slightly harmonizes the qi of the five zang organs and regulates the meridians.
Ri Huazi states: It assists blood vessels, tonifies the liver, and brightens the eyes. People suffering from sores and boils should not eat it, as it promotes pus formation; for chronic ulcers that do not heal, eating it as sashimi is beneficial.
"Shiliao" (Dietary Therapy) states: Cooked with fermented soybeans into a soup, one or two servings are sufficient. Fresh fish is suitable for consumption. If kept overnight, it is unsuitable for eating. It causes coldness in the abdomen and generates various diseases. Whether pickled or preserved in fermented rice wine, it is still edible. It can also be roasted and then re-boiled in green onions and vinegar. It harmonizes the five zang organs, assists spleen qi, promotes digestion, regulates the twelve collaterals, and smooths the flow of qi that is not in coordination. People at that time liked to make it into cakes and roast them to eat. It still slightly moves qi, but long-term consumption does not harm people.
Taste is sweet, nature is neutral, non-toxic. It primarily treats evil blood within the abdomen, boosts qi and strength, makes the person fat and strong, and eliminates small parasites in the abdomen. Those with black spots on their backs have a particularly rich flavor. In ancient times, Immortal Liu Ping often ate Shiguiyu (Stone Mandarin Fish). This fish currently retains the name "Gui," suggesting it might be this species. It lives among rivers and streams. (Currently appended)
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully cite Ri Huazi's statement: Slightly toxic. Boosts qi, treats intestinal wind and bloody diarrhea. Also known as Gui Tun and Shui Tun.
"Shiliao" (Dietary Therapy) states: Nature is neutral. Tonifies exhaustion, benefits the spleen and stomach, slightly toxic. Shengjin Formula: Treats all cases of bone splinters stuck in the throat of children and adults, or bamboo/wood splinters lodged in the throat that cannot go down. Lower Prescription: In the twelfth lunar month, take the gallbladder of the mandarin fish, hang it under the north eaves to dry. Whenever there is a fish bone stuck, take a piece the size of a soap bean, decoct it in wine, and sip it warm. If one piece of the decocted medicine is swallowed, nothing will remain stuck. This medicine is effective for bone splinters lodged in the zang-fu organs for a long time, causing pain, jaundice, emaciation, and severe weakness; after taking it, they will all be expelled. If mandarin fish cannot be found suddenly, Li Yu (Carp), Huan Yu (Grass Carp), and Ji Yu (Crucian Carp) can all be used. Collecting them in the twelfth lunar month is best.
